You'll have to look at rigs over 200k or with salvage title to hit that price range. Resale on these is insane.

I have a bunch of questions about this bike. Would anyone mind helping a high end mountain bike owner out?

Yeah Kelly is crazy! and Crazy tall lol My cousins in Australia, just told me that they were watching the local news the other night and they showed the Rampage and Kyle's run! It's crazy to think of all the news and publicity an event like that can get nowadays with all the social media.

got a link or pics or something? im guessing you forgot to add it haha
seriously, especially freeriding, like mountain biking is hard enough to get into as it is, most people will never ride a big mountain like that, yet its so epic it has to get publicity

I came into this thread and still am a total newb to mtb with similar questions. I learned a TON from google and youtube.

as far as replacing gears, is it having trouble shifting? if so, try and tune your rear derailleur. set high and low points, and then adjust tension until it is at its best. if shifting is unsatisfactory, buy a new chain first, then buy a new sprocket set if necessary. if it still doesn't shift well, you didn't pay close enough attention to youtube or your cables may be gunked up. I have found that once you understand how the system works, it is very easy to tune. mine shifts pretty good with a haggard-ass sprocket set and chain.

I would also suggest investing in tools. park-tool makes anything you could imagine for any bike. research your cranks and bottom bracket, and take them apart. if you disassemble the bike, it will give you tons of confidence because you will have the knowledge of not only how to diss/assemble the bike, but you will most likely learn how each component works in the process.

if you have any more specific questions I can try and help you

it looks like a solid bike, is it carbon? if so just check for any signs of wear like cracks or anything. check your brake pads for sure. the brakes may need a bleed but if they feel strong then you should be good.

as far as gears go, usually a sign of wear in the rear cassette and front chain rings is that they get really sharp. If that is true definitely look into replacing them. You should probably consider a new chain if the cassette is bad because i believe an old chain on new cassette will wear the cassette faster.

If the front big ring is ground down that may be a sign that it is wear from hitting rocks. My big ring is basically flat on one side from being used as a bash guard haha. So basically its your choice if you replace that or not.

Like said above you could try adjusting the front and rear derailleurs but if you have no experience you may want some help.

If you want to post some pics of the actual cassette and front chain rings then we could probably tell you how it looks. Getting tools is probably a good idea since you will end up using them the more you ride.

Kayla, congrats to your brother. I never even knew about the Redbull event til I saw it posted here. Badass ride, the kid was MOVING down the hill!!

Stephen, its 1238 at night here I'll post some pics in the morning, but I do know its a Giant XTC advanced All carbon fiber bike, with Shimano XT crank, gears etc, and a really wierd named seat (That isnt the most comfy thing on earth!). I bought it when my XO (Big into bikes)told me a guy across the street at another command was selling a "High end" XC bike for $800. I only bought it because my Truck hadn't arrived from the states and I needed a way to work. Now I am getting to like riding it more around base. Sadly only really on the roads, but I wanna know if I got a good deal, and if I should replace anything. It shifts fine, and the teeth arent "Sharp, but a few of them look like they have been worked harder than others haha.

The teeth are shaped differently to help with shifting so that could possibly be normal. Honestly if your XO knows a lot about bikes he might be able to give you a better opinion about the condition of the bike since it's harder to tell even with pictures online. It sounds like if it's shifting fine then you should be good for now though.

He makes some pretty good videos, he was the first I saw using the go pro mounted on a pole to the helmet. I love his ski vids too
