Joined the FS 29er club today. Bought an Orbea Occam today. I love this bike, cant wait to really hit the trails!

It was originally listed at $3100, but it was a demo from last yr, I got it for $1700. It looks brand new, I don't think it was ridden much.

Been putting a lot of miles on this bad boy over the winter so far:

During the summer though, I break out the DHR and it gets the majority of ride time:

soCal is right.. i bought an entry level road bike with plans to upgrade the tiagra components to 105's later on. if i didnt work at a bike shop at the time the group set at a grand would have cost me more than a bike that came with it on. if you want to build your bike up, the best way to do it is as stuff wears out or you break it on the trail.... thats when you upgrade. kinda makes it a never ending build!

Yeah I dont think there are many mountain bikers on the east close very close together. There are a few others here in virginia but they don't post too much. I'm sure there is solid riding down south though. When I was considering going to Clemson I found out they have a lot of free ride stuff.

Where have you been riding at? Has there been much snow out in the mountains? I left my mountain bike at home to make room for my snowboard and bmx here at school....kinda wish I brought it though

Just been riding out in the national forest mainly, west of Staunton. A lot at Douthat State Park down near Covington, and quite a bit at the city parks in both Staunton and Harrisonburg. Not much consistent snow but it's actually fun to ride in.

If there are folks here that are looking for more MTB info, I highly suggest looking into a MTB-specific website/forum. You can't except to always find answers to all your questions on a Tacoma forum. Check out Pinkbike, MTBR, and my personal favorite, Ridemonkey.com

Really scared myself today, fell on a part of a trail that I am terrified to have an off at and it happened today. I had my hardest fall of my riding career. Bombing down the roughest and steepest section of one of my favorite trails, go over one step that is probably 3 feet tall followed by about 25 feet of rough medium sized rocks followed by another 4 foot step. Went down after the first step and fell head first on my back and skipped off the top of the second step and down on my hip/back. My left hip is a huge rock rash and a serious bruise, very painful. Get to work a 12 hour shift tomorrow too yay!

Trail in question is shown here (first step at 1:24)

    Build thread in sig...
I have a 12 hour race coming up and need a light. the previous night races i've done were when i worked for a bike shop, so they always supplied our lights. looking at the night rider 1800, any thoughts? would like to keep it under $300.

Edit: if i go with the 1800, it'll be a single helmet mount, however, i am also open to the idea of getting two lower powered lights (still in the $300 total range) and doing one helmet, one handle bar.

What race are you doing Colin? I've been wanting to get into racing, but haven't jumped in yet.

I have a cygolite tridenx, at least I think that's the one I have. I'll check when I get home tonight. The only downside is the weight. With the battery and light on my helmet it's pretty heavy.
