Ive ran a narrow, wide ring on all my bikes, never once have I dropped a ring.. Ive done some pretty crazy rides that I though I would have lost a chain and never once have I dropped one. Chain guides are a waste of money nowadays with the n/w rings

That is what I have been reading. Having the LBS that is building it up leave it off. Ill put it on later if I start dropping my chain which I doubt. Damn I want Thursday to get here already.

Btw If anyone is looking to buy my old bike 2011 Spec Pitch Comp its up for sale.

Ordered me one of these the other day. 2014 Giant Anthem X 29er. All Fox CTD, SLX/XT stuff. Haven't even gotten it yet but the mods are in the mail. Got an XT front derailleur & a 110mm oem stem on the way. The grips will most likely be replaced and the Fiziik seat will have to do some breaking in to maybe stay. Did get to roll out on a nice demo ride while at the shop the other day on one just like it. Glad I did because the med has a bigger standover height than I expected and was just right except needing longer stem. The large would have been to tall on standover height. Only bad thing on the test ride was the glaring pink pedals they stuck on it, lol. Other than that, can't wait.

Chain guide isn't necessary, but a bash guard is a good investment. Make sure to get a clutch type or type 2 rear derailleur for increased reliability

So I've heard...my deity bars are better than the ones my bike came with, but I hear the carbon bars, seat posts make a huge difference.

i have run carbon bars and seatposts for years and love them.

it takes an awful lot to make them fail...even if they did fail they don't just "snap" like metal will.

i actually had a decent crash on a bike with carbon frame/bars and it held up really well where a similar crash on my bike tweaked the bars a tiny bit. i wouldnt want to crash regularly on carbon though because that stuff wont bend haha...it will break
ef that shit haha were they the trail pedals? cool pic too
