Try some on first - Giros run very narrow. If you have narrow feet, you might like them, but if you have wide feet like I do, you'll be in pain.

Just light trail riding, nothing too extreme. I am about 5'7" so a smaller frame would would. Not trying to spend a whole lot right now, if I find I enjoy it, then I will spend the cash on a nicer one. just trying to get an idea on what is a good buy

I just got back into riding last year. Since it had been approximately 8 years since I had ridden, I went the same route you are. Searched my local craigslist and found a 2006 Fisher Tassajara for $300. One of my buddies from work suggested I try a small frame (5'7" as well) and I'm glad I did. I feel that I have more control over the bike and can maneuver it a little easier (nimble?). I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back riding am currently in search of a little bit of an upgrade. If you were local, I would make you a deal. I added BB7 disc brakes and Shimano speed dial 7 brake levers.

I'll definitely will try anything on before I purchase. I'm trying to get some ideas first before I go to the store.

    Yeah.
I wouldn't do it. If you aren't doing anything serious, you don't need the full suspension. And if you are, you need a better full suspension bike than that one.

For your size, that small Gary Fisher is probably the best one you posted. It appears has better components, but that is an odd seat post. After that, the Trek, but it doesn't have a great fork.

Really? Come on man. That's crazy talk. You will get alot nicer bike for that obviously but there's no need, especially if he's not sure he's going to stick with it.

You can spend $750-$1000 on a new bike and get a good one. And get a few years old one for half that.

Here is a pic of my primary ride. I just had the suspension serviced by Fox and put a new set of wheels on it (Hadley Hubs & Stans Flow Ex Wheels). It also got new tires, chain and cassette. And yes the chain is now through the guide. I had a few too many bourbons before I got to installing the chain. I have almost 1,000 miles on it and still loving it. I also have a '13 Stumpjumper Comp HT that I use as a gravel bike and a '13 Roubaix Elite Apex for the road. Last year I logged about 4,000 miles in total.

My bike is right next to my bed working as a shirt hanger in the winter. In our new house it will be in the garage though.

Been riding this for the past few weeks. Pedals just as well if not better than most XC full squish bikes to be honest. 36 has been very smooth as well, I like it better than a pike personally.
