Tubeless...I had bad luck with a Stans kit on some Sun rims, but will try again in the future with some Mavic 819's, which are UST rims.

Weight - If you have to add a rim strip + 3 scoops of goo, then you lose out on any weight benefits, but you (supposedly) wont get flats any more. A decent trade off, but I didnt ever get flats until I started trying tubeless. Now I am getting more

    Brakes

The Juicy three brakes being offered are decent - I have had Juicy 3, 5, 7s, and now Elixers. Also Avid BB5 and BB7's, as well as some Hayes discs.

Thus far, Elixers -> Juicy's -> bb7s are my favorites. The 5 and 7s were nicer, especially due to adjustments, but I had 0 issues with the Juicy threes on my bike. In fact, they were good enough that I didnt bother putting the Juicy 5s I had sitting around on the bike, I just sold the 5s.

Were I getting mechanical, or on a limted budget, a set of BB7s can be found for 75-100 bucks, and I would go that route every time, without hesitation. Good brakes.

Here's my ride. I've started riding a lot lately so I'm thinking about upgrading. Would upgrading components really be worth it, or should I go for a whole new bike? I just want to go faster. I upgraded shifters to shimano ef51's since this pic was taken.

When I was looking, the following were all decent. The more money, the more you got obviously. The prices were from local places so ymmv.

    Cannondale SL3 $699 & SL4 $549

    Trek-4500 $730, 3900 $520, '10 4300 $629

    Gary Fisher (trek)- '10 Marlin $650, Wahoo $630, '11 Marlin $580, Advance $520

    Specialized- Rockhopper $680,

    GT- 3.0 $520, 2.0 $710

Thats a couple of the major brands anyways. The gary fisher treks are a good bang for the buck bike and actually I ended up getting one (29" wheel though).

bone stock save for the block lift that came on it with the open country m/t.
where were you last week? lol. I bought some hayes stroker ryders, I think that's the name. Huge change in braking, now it's just one finger instead of two or three. I really like it so far, now to test it out on some real conditions instead of my neighbourhood. :D

Sorry I missed you! It would have been nice to unload them quick. I have been running Formulas. After purchasing these, I decided I wasn't going to change and bought a New pair of the Formula The One FRs too. All I can say about those bad boys is Wow.

So for you downhill guys, let me ask this. Would it be retarded to run a smaller front sprocket then what a DH bike would normally come with and run XC sized rear sprockets (larger) and use a downhill bike for nothing but climbing hills, then flying down them, as opposed to pushing it up the hill or a ski lift? I'm not going to race it but want to use it for climbing/leg strenthening, then flying down the hills. I suck at climbing hills and having a heavy 45 pound bike and steep hills, as well as having no cars to deal with sounds appealing, to mix things up.

I have a old hard tail I'm using as a street punder for the moment (slicks) and just bought a road bike but a simple swap of tires on my hardtail and it can do XC but it's not suited for bashing offroad, just fire roads at saine speeds.

I'm thinking of getting a FS bike with at least 6" of travel, that I can use strickly offroad hard and the idea of those beefy ass MX looking forks seems more than strong enough, as well as the oversized frame tubing they use. I'm kinda looking at the 2012 GT Fury in alloy but am open to other possibilties too.
