The Kuat racks are mighty fine, however I picked up my Yakima Holdup 2 on a Amazon flash sale for $199! ($450 MSRP)

When you get older, the risks are harder and harder to push to the back of the mind. One's mortality, un-invincibilty & self preservation make it difficult to do so. I have toned down my riding accordingly as I do not do ride to make a living but to keep living............

bike is basically done. just need to trim the rear brake hose down a little and put the new Bontrager XR4 tires on

It started as a stock Trek Remedy 7, upgrades are:
    Shimano XT brakes
Shimano XT front shifter (I think i broke the original adjusting the derailleur/barrel adjuster)
    KS Lev DX dropper
    Renthal fatbar lite
    Raceface turbine stem

edit: and if anyone wants to buy a KS E-ten remote PM me. Its a cheap alternative to other droppers. I made sure i had it was working fine before i took it off my bike, i just didn't like how the cable moves with the seat and that it is a little slower on the rebound

    Yeah.
Lookin' good! Looks like you currently have the "old" style XR3's on there, those things suck balls. They redesigned them, and that's what I run on my Fuel. XR4's are good, too, but a little more aggressive than I need here.

Can anyone recommend online shops to buy parts? I need new brake/shifter cables, a chain, and presta valve tubes...our local shops tend to mark everything up a good bit

Any of those 3 usually good deals. Price point always has good deals on tubes.

I like Jenson for online stuff. theyve got free shipping for orders over $50 right now, although the free shipping does take a while (as in about a week to me in virginia)

yeah i agree, you get what you pay for. there is no need to get top level stuff. just make sure what you get is compatible with what you have.

for example make sure you get mountain bike cables and a chain that is meant for how many gears your bike has. you can't use a 10 speed chain on a 9 speed drivetrain, i don't think the chain is wide enough to fit over the teeth, at least without causing excess wear.

for chains, stick with sram or shimano depending on your drivetrain. kmc is good too but might be more expensive

id recommend some cable cutters if you don't already have some. they won't fray the cable. i've had bad experience with other cutting tools. these are what i have http://www.homedepot.com/p/Wiss-8-in-Flip-Joint-Cable-Cutters-0890CSFW/205033989

don't forget some quality lube. i was using finish line dry teflon lube and liked it but switched to dumonde tech. its supposed to last longer between applications and can be used on cables, which you might need to do if you are using old housing.

What are these tube things you speak of? I haven't had tubes in my mountain bike tires for years.

I order from Jenson often and love them. Chainreactioncyles is also a great site that I've had good luck with. Price Point has great prices on things, but I've never actually ordered through them.

The brands of tubes isn't really a big issue (you can get them for like $4 each). Spend the money on a decent chain. Never needed new cables so, I'm useless there.

Get jagwires for cables. You can get entire sets plus numerous housing colors for under $30.
