Thanks, yes, 27.5+ 3.0 tires. I have gone full fatty, I also have a Stache 9 29+ that kind of led to this purchase. And a Farley. If you haven't tried a + bike, don't do it unless you are ready to change out the stable. I haven't ridden my Fuel since I got my first + bike.

The 2.3's are great for most people. It's all just a matter of preference and riding style. I see guys riding CX bikes on rough trails, so to each his own. Personally, I ride for fun, not Strava times, and I enjoy being able to just bomb through and over everything in my way. The Farley runs over everything, but it is a bit less agile than the + bikes. But, it's probably more agile than you would expect. I ride it everywhere I ride my other bikes. I find the + bikes to be the perfect compromise -- great grip everywhere without a big loss in agility. They are just plain fun to ride and very forgiving of line choice.

I actually think that wider is going to be a continuing trend in the MTB world. Both my + bikes are Boost width, and the wheels are noticeably stiffer and feel more stable. And they are not necessarily heavier -- my aluminum Stache 9 with suspension fork and dropper post weighs in at 26 lbs. I haven't weighed the new Stumpy but am guessing about 29 lbs. after setting up tubeless.

And 1X is here to stay. Not going to jump on Eagle anytime soon (wow, is that pricey), and I find the range on 1x11 is plenty. Not missing the front derailleur at all.

Only thing that concerns me with 1x is chain guide for bouncy rough stuff and knocking the chain off. I don't see any type on the stumpy. I purposely left the front derailleur on my 1x8 mtb with the limit screws holding it in place to keep this from happening. Cheaped out on an actual chain guide for it. Haven't had any dropped chains tho.

No chain guides on any of my bikes, running NW chainrings from both SRAM and RaceFace with X1 and GX derailleurs. No dropped chains even on a hardtail on super choppy fast sections. A friend has Shimano components and he doesn't drop chains either. As long as you have a rear derailleur designed for 1x, you shouldn't need much in the way of a chain guide.

My Farley is running a RaceFace NW chainring, X1 derailleur (probably swap that to the Stumpy since it has GX), and a Shimano 11spd cassette, totally mixed drivetrain, and works perfect.

Those 6 fatties are sweet. And I agree, I think 1x is here to stay. My last bike had a 3x front and I've never been happier since going 1x. Less clutter on the bars, less shit to brake... I never find my self wishing I had that "one in between gear" that I hear people bitch about. I do my heavy squats and deads though.

    I use a Wolf's Tooth narrow/wide with a non-clutch Xt derailleur and have never dropped a chain

Where is that Dual Slalom course? Looks nice. Here is a pic of me racing a Norba National Dual Slalom race in Helen, Georgia. I'm the tan guy in the blue lane.
Dual Slalom was a breeze for me since I switched over from BMX.

I have the exact same chainring and my derailleur is SLX not XT but is a clutch style. I ride a Santa Cruz Chameleon and have yet to drop a chain. And I ride side by side with a Santa Cruz Nomad, Giant Anthem, and a Giant Kodiak all over NC.

Ive ridden full bike park days with 1X no guide just the clutch rear and narrow wide. If you drop chains on a clutch/NW set-up its because you've set the bike up wrong. Biggest problem is every company going batshit rear cassette crazy with 11-50 and the such, on a bike with some chain growth you need such a long chain the derailleur isnt holding much tension on it when in the 11 tooth, 11-40 and 30/32 front is a good set-up. You can spin it out if you boogie but it you arent EWS ready its the only way to not decimate your knees.

image.jpg Does anyone here run an elliptical ring on an AM/Enduro bike? Been debating on running one on my carbine since the 30t is a tad too low for me compared to my other bikes

I miss the Texas Hill Country. But no, no ellipticals. I personally wouldn't go there.
