I'm the one who doesn't ride places where rocks have legs.:D Bent derailleurs go in trash, not headed for trails.

I has simples too but simple just doesn't cut it everywhere :(

Agreed. Tuning is 99% of the fix. I would drop the chain off the front small ring more frequently than I cared to. Backed out the b-screw a couple of turns and got it closer to the 36t cog in the back. Haven't had a dropped chain since. However, if I slam into a rock and bend the rear mech causing it to drop the chain, I wouldn't expect tuning to fix it. I wouldn't expect the chain to stay on. I'd expect to be walking home or riding home in a middle gear.

What kinda trails are you riding with a single speed?! I'm going to convert to a 1x because I never use my big ring. Think I'm settled on a 32t NW...any larger and I don't know if I have the legs for it. Oh and that 2nd Fox fork....NIIIIICE.

I have only had a chain go between the cassette and hub once -- that was when I learned how to adjust a derailleur. Now if I get like one clunky shift I am off the bike adjusting stuff. I have to say that with today's stuff, once you get it adjusted it pretty much stays, so this doesn't happen much.

Last year we got caught in a storm, got caked with mud and then hit a trail that had a lot of really fine gravel like crushed granite. This resulted in a cement-like substance that jammed up my chain all of the sudden, flipped the derailleur up and over, snapping the hanger, and then going into the wheel to take out a couple of spokes. It was a mess just to get it untangled so I could push the bike out. Luckily Trek Care replaced eveything, first time I have bought a warranty and came out on top.

Those are all I ride. I also race single speed. Now I don't do particularly well, but I finish.

as if a thin piece of plastic is going to withstand a chaindrop. i think if your chain drops off the low gears that your spokes are screwed with or without that plastic dork-disk.

Reconfigured the whip for an extended up coming trip. Decided to put some gears on it since the rest of the group will also be so hindered. After a few days as the solo singlespeeder the mob starts to get a little cross with me always being a mile ahead or behind. So it goes.

No, I traded my Tr500 frame and fork for this and 90% of the parts to make it complete. I have a pike, brakes, 1x11 drivetrain etc etc.

I wanted to give 650b a solid go

I currently ride a fuel ex7 29er and love it. Probably the favorite one ive owned. Been wanting a rigid SS for a while and found one this week. 2013 carve sl 29er SS. The previous owner put in a reba rl Shock but came with the original carbon rigid fork. Already tubeless. Just need to buy a pair of pedals to clip in and will be trail ready. Paid 450$ for it. Think I got a great deal and can't wait to try it rigid.

Some really cool bikes / builds in this thread. Here is my bike. '16 Specialized FSR SJ 650B. I really like it. My previous bike was an '07 Specialized FSR SJ. Sold it to a buddy and we ride together often. That bike is a beast, but I really like the '16 too.
