100% ! the scout will climb better than the patrol! its not near as long or slacked out, so it will track better when going up, plus the scout still has a steep HA and will handle the steeper stuff just fine, its the rougher terrain where the more travel is needed.

Go patrol! I have ridden both bikes and they both climb like monsters! Demo'd both through their HQ this past summer and they are very similar climbing but noticeably different when going down hill IMO. I say go patrol because it offers more forgiveness if you do make a mistake and the slacker head angle makes you feel more planted/stable when you start picking up more speed.

Any recommendations on a crash pad, I'm worried about my tailgate getting all scratched up. I know due to the nature of the product it's gonna happen, but if one will prolong it from happening more then another that would be great. Thx

I've been on the fence with the transition fleet too I love there bikes. I'm leaning towards the scout, but really like the Santa Cruz Bronson too.

Raceface pads seem to be a fair bit higher quality than the dakines/evoc/thule that I've used. They have a super soft fleece-type underside and dividers on the top to keep the bikes from bumping into each other and sliding around.

A bit of tailgate wear is going to happen with any pad though.

I've had a Dakine pad for maybe 5 or 6 years now. It's held up great. There are tears in the pad from cinching the straps down but they haven't gotten worse since the tears occurred. I haven't noticed any additional wear on my tailgate with this pad, which has the lining underneath.

Dakine, Raceface, Troy lee designs, and Fox all make tailgate pads. I use a towel currently haha.

Its hard to go wrong with either company, everyone is making great bikes these days. I have heard that the Santa Cruz linkage and pivots do tend to creek more than Transition which would be fixed by servicing. Transition has designed their bikes to build and forget. I personally would take either bike they both shred! Not sure if that helps haha

I will have one of these in July 2017 (Meltdown in 27.5 with DVO Topaz)

    http://www.tantrumcycles.com/

[currently I have a Giant XTC advanced hardtail and a Trek Farley fatbike rigid and a pile
of other bikes I ain't got enough time to ride them all]
    -----------------------
    Do some google searches,
and read all the reviews from normal folks who have ridden one of the prototypes on mtbr
    forums

for an AM fully, to act like an XC hardtail when needed, and -->seamlessly<-- has never been done
before except the Kona Magiclink...and this new bike here

    1) it's legit groundbreaking suspension design, no fiddlin with lockout levers

    2) does what the Kona magiclink does, but better and simpler (easy to wrap your head around
what is going on, vs the magic link which was a big 'HUH?")

    3) works even with a crap shock...no need for buying a high zoot shock and fiddling
with some aftermarket kit to make it work inside 'your bike'...this 'missing link' is the shiznat

just read the reviews and what riders are saying...Brian has the patent finalized recently
which had been submitted way back in 2013

    http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=9598140.PN.&OS=PN/9598140&RS=PN/9598140

If you dig deep enough the only negative reviews it has ever gotten was
the paint scheme used at interbike.

The actual ride reviews are all along these lines

"This one of the best f*cking bikes I have ever ridden. It’s in the “one bike for pretty much everything” category."

    -----------------------
About me and why I am excited about this ?

I am XC oriented and love riding the chunder. rock and more
rock, but XC quickness...doesn't really come together all the time

I got enough loot to buy any bike I really want...(well, I have a 'job'
lets put it that way...I am not rich)

I only want specific bikes for specific reasons....any bike I own is not
a compromise to me...it is an exact fit

I have ridden a bunch of different full suspension bikes over the years,
but all of them had some compromise or another for some reason and
just is not the 'pinnacle' of design for what I want...an XC fully that can
do AM duty but not sacrifice pedaling action and not need some
lockout BS or skunkworks shock builds

    until now,
and this thing..the tantrum and the missing link design...I do believe
Brian nailed it and 'it has arrived !!!!

I will have one in July anyway....we'll see
but all reviews are all fn-good !

This thing is so much fun on the trails. Definitely hoping they make a 140mm smuggler or the likes real soon here. If not I'll pick up a used remedy 29 frame in the next year or so

mmmm so crispy. Orange bikes makes a 135 and a 150mm 29er and they absolutely rip. I recently hopped on their Stage 6 (150mm) bike was blown away
