No one seems to have SC Chameleon in stock yet.

Anyone have recommendations for online retailers or bike stores in Southern California that sell Santa Cruz bikes.

I'm in OC, not sure where you are.

    Bike Company in Lake Forest
    Laguna Cyclery

Another option is Kona, check out the Honzo and Explosif.

The Path bike shop in Tustin.

If you don't mind used, 2k will buy you a great full suspension bike. Might need a buddy that knows bikes to help you there. Just found my buddy an excellent condition 2016 Giant Trance with full XT 1x11, Fox kashima suspension, and dropper post for $2k.

I've seen that one orange bike in Seth's bike hacks. It's not your regular hardtail. It has a slack head tube angle and 140mm fork. I love my Bronson, but for a few trails here it seems like overkill.

That orange does sound like a fun bike!! As long as you can use the Bronson somewhere it's gotta be worth it. .......if not you can always sell it to me. :D

The Bronson is probably too much bike for the trails close to home, but I only ever have one mountain bike at a time and I wanted something that could do it all. I'm trying to get more into east tn this year.

Yeah I get it. Pretty much the same mentality.....but I did pick up a Kona Unit single speed late last year. It's a fun bike to switch things up with. I've always wanted to do a little traveling specifically to ride myself.

I want to get back into mountain biking, looking for a hard tail, 29er. Budget of $1k max. Id prefer new just because I don't like not knowing the history on stuff. Going to be riding trails in az and possibly doing some bikepacking on single track. You guys have any suggestions?

I kinda had the same feeling once. My buddy has one.....it's cool no doubt. But, now that I've ridden it a few times I found out quickly that it's something I'd get tired of so to speak. Now a mid-fat is another story. I think it's a perfect combo....

    Yeah.
+1. I have a fat bike that I occasionally trail ride for a change of pace -- especially when I am riding with some slower riders. It's fun and playful and different, but not something I would ride all the time. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we didn't have much snow this year to use it as a snow bike, but I had it ready to go all winter.

My favorite bike for the trails I mostly ride is a Fuel EX 27.5+ with 2.8" tires. It only has 130mm rear/140mm front travel, but it was fine at the bike park in CO last summer (a 160mm bike would be ideal, but the bigger tires make up a little of the difference). It's a well-balanced bike that feels very natural, and the big rubber provides great grip. Just great fun to ride, and according to my riding buddies it doesn't slow me down on climbs.

Those are the narrowest tires I have. My third bike is a Stache 29+ hardtail with 3.0" tires. Short chainstays and giant wheels that run over everything. There are some short technical climbs that I have only conquered on the Stache, but it's fun and flickable at speed as well. Just takes a little getting used to the gyro effect from the front wheel at higher speeds -- it takes a little more effort to get it to want to turn at speeds over 20mph.

I've been swapping out bikes quite a bit over the last few years and have had as many as 5 at once, but I have settled on these 3. The Fuel sees most of the miles now, but I grab the Stache if we are headed to smoother trails. I think the 2.8 width (on 27.5 40mm rims) is the sweet spot for general trail riding. A 140/150 or 150/160 29er with 2.6" tires would be interesting to try, but I haven't seen anyone go there yet. My next purchase will be to swap the Manitou fork on the Stache out with a Pike when it becomes publicly available. The Magnum is not terrible, the air spring is just a bit quirky.

That's what I'm doing too. But I'm spending a lot since I'm towing my truck out on a trailer and the wife is driving her car as well. I hope to make a lot back but we'll see.
