I just mustered enough energy to lift my shirt and found no bruising. I think I may have just pulled some muscles around my shoulder blade and pectoral. The shoulder feels good and that's what I was really worried about. The funny part is that some other riders warned me about the jumps ahead not 20 seconds before it happened. They heard me wipeout and came to the rescue.

shoulder injuries suck worse than rib injuries. at least ribs heal relatively fast. i had an AC separation in my right shoulder a few years ago. it took around 6 months to stop hurting and it still clicks if i do pushups. it will also randomly pop really loud and hurt. i also strained/pulled/didn'tGoToTheDocToReallySee both rotator cuffs in november and have some pain lingering from that. I went OTB and stiffened up my arms to keep from going face first into a log.

I only have a few pictures of my new MTB pieces....it's
being welded/heat treated this week. then after destructive testing
of two frames, my frame should ship, barring any rework needed
    based on testing

full build will be sometime later

It will have a DVO diamond 27.5 160mm front fork, and DVO Topaz shock.

more pics once it's been welded up

probably the dude in this video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icWIGDHl6sA

This is going to be a Tantrum Meltdown 27.5 fully

the inventor is Brian Berthold, who designed the Kona Magic link and Brake Therapy components. The Magic Link was (and still is) one of the best DH suspensions ever designed. This Missing Link is the next iteration of the
Magic Link, more compact and easier to understand.

he has this new suspension linkage design that is getting awesome reviews on the
prototypes, and I am one of the first 39 backers getting a full bike (someday)

Brian Berthold's Missing Link delivers the goods - direct drive pedaling with supple suspension action - and it does so without electronics, remote levers or voodoo shock damping. Compared to the current crop of carbon superbikes, the Tantrum Meltdown looks rough around the edges, but it performs well on the downs - essential for any 160-millimeter trail bike - and its pedaling action is better than all of them.

Bold statement? I've ridden many trail bikes that were supposed to, '...pedal like a cross-country bike and descend like a DH bike.' (I've written that phrase more times than I should have) Only two have actually performed that ballet: the Meltdown with its Missing Link, and a Kona Process outfitted with Fox's prototype Live Valve electronic suspension. Neither are perfect, but both set the bar well above today's crowded pack of carbon uberbikes.

Send the Meltdown to finishing school, add a better component selection and a more sophisticated fork and shock, and I think it has the potential to take on the big guys. Brian Berthold's Missing Link is proof that there actually is significant room for improvement among the present crop of all-mountain trail bikes. Cheers to thinking outside the box. - RC

    yeah

MTBR members who actually rode the bike all report that is does what Brian and the magazine reviewers
say. Brian dragged two prototypes around the USA letting reviewers have a good hard ramble and all of them
say ...ya got something going here...and it's good

an AM bike that basically pedals like a hard-tail blasting out of corners or uphills, but
eats bumps while doing it, no jerky feel when doing it, no lockout lever needed.

I scrutinized this for a while then said F-it, sent my monies and ...will get a bike someday
(delays happen when making a new bike on your own)

and Brian is legit, he isn't making a crap bike. he discovered a way to make his Kona magic link better
and worked on it hard for 4 years before attempting to produce a bike.

from this (a super sweet ride, but kinda complex setup)

    to this

And in the future Brian says he is gonna produce a DH specific
Tantrum and he'll likely put the Magic Link suspension on that DH version
because it can eat much bigger bumps

I've been thinking about just getting one of the gallon sized sprayers for $5 at Lowe's. Seems sufficient for spraying my legs off.

Im about to get back into downhill mountain biking and am looking for a good bike, my budget is $1000 as of right now. I have heard great things about the Raleigh Tokul 3, and I was wondering if any of you guys have any input or any other better bikes for the price. I want a hard tail for sure, with 27.5 wheels and a 1x10 or 1x11 drivetrain. It says out of stock online but my local shop has 5 of them ready to pick up. Im 5'9'' and 164lbs if that makes a difference

I dont think you have an idea what downhill mtb is if your looking at that bike. i think you just mean mtb. No hardtail is designed for DH riding, although ive done it i wouldnt recommend it. Seeing as your profile says you live in Dallas im assuming you mean your looking for a xc style bike as ive ridden a handful of the trails in the dfw area. so yes the bike your looking at is a good bike for such trails. id also recommend looking at Giant, GT, and Kona for budget friendly bikes. Giant is my top pick when it comes to bang for the buck.

Well we have family in Colorado, and we go up there at least 5 times a year. There are tons of downhill mtb trails near their house, thats where I plan to use it the most. I currently have a Fuji hardtail and I've gone dh many times with it and I'm very comfortable with the hardtails. I want a hardtail just because personally I can't stand full suspension bikes, I'm used to hard tails and I would like to still use the bike here in dfw where there much simpler trails. I haven't heard much about Giant but ill give them a look. I have seen many bikers use the Raleigh for downhill and every other type of trail and everyone says its a very versatile bike, being why I like that one but Ill look at others.
