the Jet 9 rdo i rode recently is far from a xc bike and agree a 27+ bike is just a fun bike. it was a slug but would be great for decents. the Epic carbon is a heavy race rig at 23.4 lbs with candys on it. my 2013 GT zazkar aluminium frame bike is 23.2 and was only $400 more at full retail. i just built a Carbon Camber today and would bet it was 30 lbs it was soo heavy . i have a 2013 aluminium Scalpel 3 that is 27.8 and ive sold a few carbon Cannodale scalpels that were 20lbs but ive been doing this for almost 20 years and have owned more bikes than most shops carry in a year. my garage currently holds 5 bikes that are for sale ranging from a $799 msrp beginner canondale to a $9,000 msrp GT Carbon full suspension. my garage has more $ in bikes in it that a new TRD Pro would cost and i just realized that as i was typing it and adding numbers :eek::eek::eek:. You might say i have an addiction and id agree with you.
The Niner AIR 9 RDO frame is 2.7 lbs i believe. with how heavy this epic is id say its not even close to that light of a frame and i htink it has carbon wheels as well. when i get the niner built it should be 19lbs or less. just depends if my lefty fits it.

that was a horrible paragraph :typing:

Just got back from 3 days in North Carolina. Rode Pisgah, Dupont, Pisgah.

If you have never ridden there, add it to the list!

This is at the top of Black Mtn in the Ranger District.

Cool, I had a crappy frame bike with all this LX570 gun metal bluish group on it and have been wanting to do something else with so I happened on this Marin frame on the cheap. Bought stem, bars, grips, seatpost & tires and there it is. n+0 still = 19.....but got some cool wall art from the old frame.

Won the shoe jackpot today. I bought a pair of five ten freeriders on clearance in October. The sole started to fall apart. I've been wearing this model for years and know what to expect, so them wearing out so fast is odd. I filed an RMA and at first five ten was great about it. And then 2 more people replied and there was much confusion and delays. Earlier in the process they had offered be their newer version called the freerider contact so I picked the color and size I wanted. 3 weeks later there was still confusion, so I posted to their social media about it. Their apology was to ship me 2 pairs of $150 shoes for free.

Yeah they are man!! I can't remember the exact spec. I can measure them if you'd like. They are raceface bars. I'm 6'1" and have really broad shoulders. With regular standard sized bars after a short while riding my shoulders start aching riding with my hands too close together....

Great shoes. Wear the contacts for pedaling and they can't really be beat in my eyes

They seem stiffer than the vxi ones that I've been wearing. I have some original freeriders that I wore for a couple years before the vxi ones came out. I wore the vxi ones for about 3 years and got 2 pairs of them on clearance as replacements. One of those 2 pairs of the one I did the warranty claim on. I started wearing the other new pair when I sent the first pair off for warranty. I essentially have 3 brand new pairs now. The vxi ones are going to become by bad weather shoes.

Does this look like its going to hold up to hauling mountain bikes around?

I'm a little worried about the expanded metal or the welds holding the expanded metal breaking.

Traded the epic off for a Niner SIR 9 27.5+ yesterday morning. i like it much better and to my surprise it feels similar in weight but its 30 lbs. Plus tires are nice but other than helping roll over rocks without slowing me down as much as the 29er tire i dont see the desire for wanting then yet. this week ill do more testing to see ho i like them on different trails but i imagine ill be happy to get on a lighter more race friendly bike.
