They just don't know how lucky they are and push it way too far. I made a trip to Utah to ride the Paiute Trail with my family. Was awesome being able to park the truck at a Cabin and use the UTV for 3 days to get around. Driving in to Walmart to grab some drinks and hitting up a Wendy's at a gas station while filling up was great. We followed the maps of which streets were designated for UTVs, but obviously most people just cruise wherever they feel like it... Hopefully those guys don't get things shut down there. I am looking forward to getting back down to your state and doing it again someday. :)

I have to say that it is frustrating to watch someone claim they can ride the same section of uphill as I can, on an e-bike, and claim that they're similar achievements. They're not. I get the same frustration at the gym, when I see someone claim they can squat the same weight as I can, but they can only do a half-rep, or do it with shit form. Its not the same achievement. and on a very real level, it minimizes my achievements to conflate the two.

To be clear, I'm not saying the guy in this thread on the e-bike is doing this, I'm just speaking in general. But it illustrates some of my frustrations with e-bikes on MTB trails.

I pretty much totally agree with this. They are different activities, the same way road bikes and MTB is different.

and I totally don't understand why there's any debate that e-bikes and motorcycles are anywhere near the same. Those are even more separate than e-bikes and MTB.

Ultimately, I don't want to restrict people's access to the outdoors, and the activities they enjoy. But there needs to be distinctions made.

Today was the first time I was actually scared on a ride. Found some people who are WAY out of my league and they said to follow em and they took me on some massive jumps and downhill sections where I got way more air than I expected and I still fall when riding on flat ground. Luck was on my side but fuck. I was actually in the air halfway like “I’m gonna break a bone when I land”.

This shit got scarier than I imagined. For sure.

I only kept up cause I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos and they basically say that momentum is key and that hesitation is when you get hurt. So I just said fuck it and sent it lol. Can’t say I would do the same trails alone today.

Surprised there's that much left out there. Did you go thru the big square drainage tunnels to get across woodway or was that the sidewalk bridge? There was one that went under Memorial to get to that area on upper left of map and then one that went under woodway up towards arborium. There used to be like 23 miles of trails without doubling back on anything. Much more in that triangle area and much more in the area to the right on your map. Looks like nothing goes along the edge of the bayou like it used to. also surprised the parks dept allowed any jumps of any kind to exist because they had neutered all the trails because of first responders having to haul their equip by foot down the trails to tend to folks with broken collarbones and such and people wanting to sue city and such. Maybe have to check it out again. Haven't bothered going there in years. Spent most of my formative mtb years starting in early 90s out there when I lived closer and before trails got "filtered". Used to do tons of night riding out there too. How was traffic getting there at that time of day and the heat?

We did the triangle at night which took us under like 3 tunnels.
I’m excited to go out there again but I will say I think cypress creek and anthills has more obstacles.

Shit back in the day I would win downhill & dual slalom races on my cross country bike with just lowering
my seat post. I've always say todays rigs hide terrible riding habits cause they can soak up massive mistakes
a hard tail can't. I'm cool with any bike just as long as it wasn't bought at Walmart. :rofl:You keep cranking away on that old school Diamond Back.

Cool, you got lights yet? I know of some cost effective ones that have held up great and are bright AF like car light and hang over 3 hrs. Agreed about anthills/cypress being more technical for most part but haven't been to cypress or memorial in last little bit. I'll PM ya the ones I've been running since giving up spending $300 for ones that weren't as bright or lasted as long and had twice the battery size/weight.

I was gonna look at them tomorrow. I sure as fuck hope they aren’t $300 lol. My buddy wants to try mountain biking out and used to do BMX so looks like I’ll be at anthills in the morning since it’s got the most jumps even though cedar creek has some fun downhills and climbs.

Man if I was local I’d come ride. I almost went to handlebar this afternoon just to grab a beer and talk to em lol. This whole meeting new people and making new friends has helped me so much.

    You’re a badass. For real.

But it makes sense lol. If you ask “what kinda bike do I need?”

    They all recommend $3-$5k bikes.

It’s like back in the day apparently nobody could ride cause none of their bikes were as fancy as the “basic” ones today lol
