I ride 29" so I can't say much but I still think the bulk of speed is because of a rider and not wheel size. I'm a big fan of the wheel size collusion conspiracy

I’m not sure I have an old and I mean old hard tail cannondale so this is new to me. I’m guessing it’s a bad thing it has 26 inch wheels?

Not necessarily... Parts are drying up and "new tech" isn't really coming around but parts are plentiful for low prices and as long as you want to ride and maintain it you should be able to.

I’m so used to 29ers now that when I see 26s on a bike I think:

It has so much to do with riding style AND rider height though too.

I have a 26+ bike and love it. Although I’m currently on 27.5 x2.35” tires I can squeeze a 26 x3.2” in there if I want to do some seriously shreddy things.

I’m 5’7” though so a 29er does roll over things faster there’s toe overlap to consider and also just having a flickable bike in general.

Also 26” wheels are STUPID cheap right now.

I do wish I had boost spacing though....

    This.

I went with a 29er six years ago after not riding for 10 years, and was surprised to see the new wheel size. Then, when I started looking for an upgrade to my X-Cal, I found 27.5+ to be a thing. But in each case, I test rode a bunch of bikes and just ended up choosing the bike on which I felt most at home.

Everyone's different. Get what works for you and have fun!

29ers just seem so much easier to go faster on and roll over stuff.....sure, toe overlap can happen occasionally in some weird happenstance but have not found it to be an issue like how slow I feel on my 26ers in comparison. 26ers just seem to be more work and hit a speed ceiling of sorts regardless of gearing where the 29ers seem as fast as I want to push them. Just my opinion. Not sure how to splain it any better. Frame geometry has made tight handling a non-issue on 29ers as well. I'm riding a 21.5" frame beast with 29x3.0s and it doesn't feel out of place on tight twisty stuff vs any of my 26ers at all. My actual frame size for my 6' height would be 17-19" depending on bike so 21.5 should be crazy handful but isn't, I love it. Just got through flinging it around all over the place earlier having a blast. Nothing against 26ers though, I still have lots and give all of them a turn. I just feel more worked over doing the same ride on them vs the 29ers which isn't that bad of a thing, lol. My foul weather swamp/flood/mud bike is a 26er and loves me summa that filthy action so they still are of use to me. Like was said, get out on whatcha has or whatcha can until you can score whatcha want and do it!

For anybody who says 26" on DH bikes is blasphemous... Cam Zink runs a mullet set up on his Tues, 26" rear with a 27.5 front end, just sayin

    Yeah.
I have a 19.5" Stache with 29x3.0 and have never had a problem with toe overlap. It's got a pretty short wheelbase, so handling tight stuff is not a problem. And for those short, steep, technical rocky/rooty climbs, there's nothing better. There's stuff I have easily cleared on the Stache that continue to be a challenge on my 27.5x2.8 Fuel. I'm faster on the Stache, but the Fuel adds a level of comfort and smooths out more of the trail. What the HT gives you going up, the FS gives you in reducing fatigue.

I’ve never had any toe overlap issues either on my stache. I think the longer/slacker geometry is starting to fix that on newer 29ers.

The stache is definitely a different beast. Short chainstays, short wheelbase, fat tires. So fun and flickable in my opinion.

anybody have a recommendation on a pouch for your bike that could hold GoPro accessories or whatever in it?

I have a hydration pack that holds my cell phone/wallet/keys/hand pump/spare tube/and patch kit in it, but that's max capacity. I take my GoPro with me every time I ride so I want to take some of the other accessories to film with too, so that's the main extra thing I'm wanting a pack for.

I usually ride wearing a jersey with 3 big pockets on the back.. seems to be the most efficient but I have used the patagonia fanny pack: https://www.patagonia.com/product/ultralight-black-hole-mini-hip-pack-1-liter/49447.html Doesn't move around much and carries just the bare necessities. Other option is a bottle cage storage compartment: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/...MImYXj3Zfx5AIVTvDACh0YagM_EAQYByABEgKDc_D_BwE Hope that helps!

I already have a hydration backpack so don't want a fanny pack as well, that's too much actually on my body. I like that bottle cage storage, but I like to carry a bottle drink too so the cage is already occupied. really looking for more of a frame pack or something. thank you though!

Oh oh I see what you mean- Serfas, timbuk2 are a couple brands worth looking into. Dealt mostly with Serfas in my shop and they have a great warranty program.
