i know how everybody mods around here, added an OME front fender. The old one fell off 50 years ago.

I picked up a pair of Specialized Stix compact lights. These are pretty cool-they use a USB charger to charge and they can be a front or a rear simply by holding the button down. They are compact and mount easily on the bars or the seat post. They're bright and have a couple of flash patterns and a solid on.

If you're looking for something to get you home, these might just work. You would probably want something a lot more robust for anything more than than casual riding.

I bet. Pivots are really nice bikes. Looks like a lot of travel on the suspension. I bet it’s super plush

The Specialized crew was at my LBS recently showing the Stumpy off. Wow is all I can say.

    Congrats on the new bike!

Has anyone here done any bike mods? Or know anyone who does in the Boston area?
I'm looking to run a larger tire, but will have to modify my rear triangle. I've found several people across the country and in Europe who do this kind of work but none close to me, and most don't mess with aluminum

Thanks bro. I've been riding hardtail forever and this is my first full-squish.

The first ride on my favorite trail was incredible. So bizarre feeling the back tire keep contact with the ground over roots and rocks. Entirely new experience for me.

I think most would recommend getting a new bike. What size wheel and width of tire you running now? I ran some 2.6" 29ers for a while, but I prefer 2.3-2.4" 29ers. I don't sense an increase in traction with the size increase.

Lol, I know. So much time and money invested in this thing though :/
I converted this IH to 650b but the max I can run on the back is 2.4 wide...
I have an extra rear triangle to experiment on thanks to a friend breaking his front triangle, haha

Yeah, it was a little weird at first...night rides are key to not fixating on it. I’ve grown to trust it, doesn’t even phase me now.

Might I ask if you noticed much difference in
rolling resistance and responsiveness swapping to a smaller tire on a hardtail?

My Fuse has 29x2.6 currently and I feel like it sacrifices quite a bit just to run a larger tire size...and I noticed Giant went to 2.5s on their Fathom 29er this year so thought "maybe I'm missing something?"

I really think 2.5 is as thick as you're gonna want to go. I run 2.5 front 2.4 rear and I might even just go 2.4 on both when it's time to swap. You don't see any of the pro enduro or downhill guys pushing much past 2.4-2.5 now it seems. Although 29ers do seem to be king and I still love my 27.5

No reason to go any wider in the back, almost all of your traction is coming from the front tire anyway. I've ran anywhere from a 2.2 to a 2.8 rear width on my bikes in the past and I've only seen a decrease in rolling resistance and not much added traction. run a 2.6 in the front and a 2.4 in the back. if you're looking for more traction go with a more aggressive tread pattern.

The thing for me was feeling the rear end sink into the turns. Great feeling to have that level of control.

I recently bought a 29er and it has a similar "squish" which I didn't think was possible. Pretty happy with that too.

I was going to suggest trying to rent a 29'er and trying that out.

My 2014 Specialized was a test bike. You could sign it out for the weekend, free. I signed it out and never took it back...I did take my cc to the bike store. Too bad they don’t have that program anymore. $2500+ bike that you decide by riding around the parking lot. Maybe barrow a friends bike?

That's a really good point...I guess part of the reason all of us are on this site is we like to tinker. I actually appreciate the "bring it back down to earth" mentality, so thanks for that!
