I’ve noticed there are a lot of good deals on new bikes these days. If you’re looking, could be worth it.

It's a total tank, but a really radical tank. Waiting for my shock pump to arrive so I can get the fork dialed in, but got in a pretty great ride today. Feels light on the uphills, absolutely shreds on the downhills.

Nice. My buddy just ordered one. He's expecting it by Monday. It's the Spectral 125. I'll be excited to take it for a spin. They seem like a lot of bike for your $.

Right on! Mine is the 150/160mm and the spec is sooo good for under $3500. The 125 will be sick. I recommend your bud take it down to frame when it arrives. I chased down some random creaks and knocks the first few rides. Finally stripped it down, cleaned greased and torqued everything to spec and it’s been a silent beast ever since. Equally great on local trails and big bike parks

With the deals going on, I'm considering picking up a new Stumpjumper Evo Comp (carbon.) Anyone have one? I currently have a '16 SJ Comp AL 650B. I like it but the shock is kind of wallowy. Also it's a bit twitchy for me. So I think the Evo will calm that down and also give me a little better suspension action. The adjustability of the new Evo is insane. I just worry that it may be too much bike in the tight/tech stuff. And I'm not a great climber, in general. So I am unsure if the Evo will make it easier for me to climb, since it's plush or if I would wish for the nimble-feeling standard SJ Comp carbon.

I believe @Dr. Doom Says has experience on the current model Evo and regular Stumpy. He may be able to toss his $0.02

Also a small FYI, the below thread sees a bit more traffic.

Back in the day I always wanted to buy a Nicolai MTB (https://en.nicolai-bicycles.com), because they look super cool and they were local to where I am from, but back then I didn't had the financial means (being a student at the time/ they were and still are super expensive).
So I went with a Votec M6 (also German manufacturer which doesnt exist anymore), which looks similar to the one in the picture. 20 years later I still own this bike and still love it, but I never took it with me to the US when i moved here.

I've have a 22 Evo aluminum and had a 21 SWorks Stumpjumper. The Stumpjumper was lighter and snappier, I swapped over to an Evo because I wanted something a bit bigger for out of state trips (im in FL). I think either will be a big difference from your 2016.

Have you looked at the Ibis Ripmo? Also, not sure where you're located but maybe you can find a LBS that does rentals. That would allow you to at least try the stumpy out.

Personally, I think the Evo would be an excellent choice. The Levo is pretty close to a stumpy except for the extra 500 pounds of battery :) I really do like it.

My boss owns a couple Specialized dealerships, so I want to stick with that brand. I could probably try each but not sure if I'd be able to do any real-world testing in the trails. So I was just trying to make the decision on my own. I really want the Evo. I would just hate to get it and it feel like a handful in some sections. I don't think that would be the case, especially on the 21+ model, but just figured I'd ask.

^^^Just my 2 cents,...I live in Pgh area and have a regular 21 Stumpy. I ride it from Jakes Rocks to Deep Creek to Big Bear to Laurel and all the local stuff around the Burgh. It is probably the best bike i've owned and can handle most anything and also has the flip chip which of course you know. I personally think the EVO would be too much bike for trail riding unless you like to huck off 4-5' drops or race Enduro...I do neither.

Thats just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. Everybody's style and needs are different so I believe you would be happy with either bike as they are all good now a days.

It’s tough NOT to include either stumpy variant in NBD conversations right now. Too much bike and value at their current ‘sale’ price point. Rumor has it much of the Spesh lineup will getting a refresh/redesign this year, but when and at what price is yet to be published.
