My 1996 (or 1997) GT Tequesta. Picked it up locally for $100. PO installed a silent hub, as well as some other small things. It'll need new tires soon, and I think I'm gonna build it to be a bit more road focused when I get them.

Depends on what you are putting on it. The frame carriers don't work well with full suspension mountain bikes or really with carbon frames period.

Personally, I highly recommend the 1Up USA rack. Use case depends on which version you go with, e-bikes need heavier duty racks due to weight. Mine pretty much lives on my truck and other than the anodizing fading in the Florida sun it has been pretty indestructible.

Just the bike I recently picked up. And another basic Mt Bike from time to time.

I did see something about the top frame rail angles being steeper now and they hang funny from the frame hanging racks. I dunno.

That 1 Up Quick Rack seems like a great option. I like the compact profile for storage.

That was Manitou's "downhill" fork in the late '90s. A whopping 3" of travel.

I've got the Thule T2 Classic. No complaints. Although I do add a Velcro strap on the front wheel bracket because my tire bounced out once after a rough gravel road.
My prior rack was a hang by the frame which would require an adapter to carry the bike. IMO the cradle style is much better.
I was considering a pad, but I don't want to lift my bike into the bed. I also looked at mount for the front rail where one has to take off the front tire, but that seem like a PITA and I'd have to angle the bike to make it fit (short bed problems).

Some of the best Maine trails are in the southern part. Gorham - Moody/Weeks, USM, Falmouth - Blackstrap, etc....

The ones that hang by the frame don't really work well with modern geometry bike frames. I have a yakima that swings out that i've had for over 10 years. my new hard tail fits like garbage on it. the frame tube angle is steep and the tube is thin. The valley the bike sits in scratched up my frame the first time I used it b/c the bike moved around too much. I have to wrap the tube in a small towel now. If I were to buy something b/c I didn't already own one I 100% would be buying one that cradle the tires.

Thank you. That's precisely what a local bike shop employee told me this past weekend.

Love seeing 29er hardtails. Post a pic in my Hardtail thread I just started. We need our own place in the sea of full suspension set ups on here.

I have an Ibis DV9 which I don't ride much. But the first time I rode it on the trail, I wash shocked by how well it rode. Comfy, climbs well. My co-worker bought one and was raving so I went to the LBS and took one for a test ride. I have a few bikes and I never really thought I'd want another hardtail--my Zaskar is OK and I've ridden it all over CO. If I had to ride those same trails on the DV9, pretty sure it would be a lot easier.

Post ups some pics in my hardtail thread!
The DV9 is probably the hardtail I'd buy if my budget was larger. That or the Yeti arc.
My buddy is looking for a hardtail and a DV9 in his size is local to us on market place for $1500. Trying to convince him that's a deal for that bike. He's still back and forth on if he just wants to go big and buy a FS bike to start

Yeah I came into this sport/hobby blind, after getting a bike, I knew nothing about bike racks, bought a Yakima off FB MP because I wanted a bike rack with a cable, found one, it held 4 bikes (hanging), chopped it down to hold 2 bikes, this rack is not meant for my bike, I have to use a ratchet strap to secure it as the wind from being on the highway pushes the back tire out, and the rubber straps don't hold well at high speed, almost lost the bike twice, so I need that other rack
