Here is my Specialized Rockhopper. I think I have replaced just about every major component on it due to wear and tear. My last major replacement was the front fork. I put on a Rock Shock Recon as a replacement. At some point in future I plan on upgrading to a KONA 29'er Hei Hei, but it might be next year before I get around to doing it.

I also included a pic of my "custom made" bike rack in my Taco. Actually it is a couple of Delta Bike Hitch fork locks mounted to a 1x6 that is bolted to the bed of my truck. But for under $50 it's probably the best bike rack you can get.

K2 seems to be somewhere between a department store bike and a low end bike store bike depending on which one you get. Mostly, they use SRAM components which are pretty OK. For $100, it'd be an OK bike--good for easy/intermediate trails.

Trail building and maintenance are the backbone of mountain bike.ng. I'd go so far to say that if you don't help, you're not a real mountain biker. I see all the serious big $ bling on many of these bikes but the best accessory for ANY bike is good trails.

I've been trail steward for the past 9 years for our local trails, nothing gives riders more satisfaction than riding trails they built for themselves. Plus it give strong incentive to not trash trails by riding them when they are too wet to ride. DON'T RIDE WET TRAILS.

They just closed down the mt bike park by me over the summer. The ski slop did over a million dollars of damage to the trails..... at least that is what I heard. Wanted to go this spring, but if I would have known I would have bought some of their gear.

Around here, building trails is a big no-no. That is, unless they're sanctioned by the parks. You can often find maintenance days to help build water bars or erosion control and maybe re-route/cleanup. But building and designing? That's "better left to the professionals" (hints of sarcasm).

I live in SoCal also, and build and ride the trails in laguna. It is illegal, but sometimes you just gotta build illegally to be able to ride. Just dont build on private house owned property though haha :smack: And i also just got poison oak all over so im kinda pissed haha

I have a bunch of hiking trails around me that I can ride on, I dont try to thrash the trails though. They are all well maintained by volunteers and most of them get alot of foot traffic. The weather has been awesome this winter. I should be riding. I am busy with 2 jobs and 2 kids though..... going to have to wait until spring.... that way I can bring the little guy out with me. My local shop has my dream bike

They parted it out so it is basically a frame on sale now for like 3300...trying not to go out and buy it then piece it back to life over the winter. I am trying to get out of debt so I squashed all spending..... it sux... beautiful bike!!!

We're scant ironed by the State Park and the Metro Park authority for our work. We also get calls form other groups to come help design and build trails.

My ride today: Slaughter Pen Hollow, Bentonville Ar. Was supposed to be 40 and sunny, instead drizzly with north wind and wind chill of 26 degrees.
