Ive also decided against clipless pedels for a while. I thought I wanted to try some out but after riding last night I realized there are lots of places on this trail where one of my feet have to come off the pedels.

You get used to em, an you get some good falls once in a while, lol. I use both depending on what I'm riding. Sometimes I want platforms, but on long ass epic rides my time atac are a god send.

what does it need to come off for? the group ride i went on with the club had a pretty steep drop off to where if you fall down that way the only think stopping you is a tree. it is scary but if i think you can adjust clipless pedals so they can come off easier. Mine almost perfect. maybe a little too loose but thats is probably from cleat wear.

its just my opinion but i wouldn't let that keep you from getting them if you think you will like them otherwise

If I ride the trail from start to finish it is right around 11 miles. There is a second starting point and its around 5 miles. I'll keep the clipless in the back on my mind and Ill probably try them out once I get a little better at riding.

most of the double black sections have a green bypass route but who wants to do those?! :D

If you're riding double diamonds, "better" is a relative term.

They do take getting used to but once you have it down, easy peasy.

    Thanks Zombie
I love checking out trails from other parts of the country.
I'm currently looking for a better job, somewhere, and as crazy as it sounds, a prerequisite is there has to be a decent mtn bike trail system nearby.

I just checked out Mountain Bike Texas...perhaps Austin is not out of the question. The Emma Long system looks worthy of a good ride.

Austin is a GREAT city for outdoor and city folk. There are trails, lots of rock climbing areas (the green belt, iirc), 6th street for bars, resturants, live music. It does get hot and humid as hell though

    Thx.
Not too shabby...also saved that link. Itching to hit Emma now.
Currently in negotiations, job wise, with a company near Austin, but they are being a bit cheap tho. At least the biking is a plus.
That site has changed my opinion on biking in Texas, I was a bit uneducated before, but this adds another element. hmmm

Other than "real" mountains, TX has pretty much any type of terrain you could ask for. What other state can you drive for 13 hours in one direction and still be in the same state?

My greatgrandparents are from this area (Burnet)
    http://www.austinbike.com/mtb/reveillepeak/index.asp

Ive done some exploring around that area when I was a kid but I would LOVE to go back and ride it!

Crank Brothers Egg Beater Clipless pedals are by far the best out there, you don't have to adjust anything
