I was watching some of Jonathan Ward's ICON 4x4 youtube videos last night. Some of his land cruisers have the factory steel wheels painted gray. I'm sure he got the color right! The dark machine gray looks really close though.

Anyone know if the TPMS sensors from the factory SR steel wheels will fit the steel spare? On my previous 2009 tacoma I went from the steel wheels to the TRD aluminum ones, and the TPMS sensors did not fit from the steel to the aluminum wheels. I have feeling that the sensors will fit from the factory steel wheels to the factory steel spare wheels, because they're both steel? Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, I've read some Land Cruiser forum posts about guys trying to find the right color....dark machine gray, MF Farm and Implement gray and some smoke grays are the colors I've seen that match the closest. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/rattle-can-color-that-is-close-to-oem-gray-wheel-color.785155/

Very cool! thanks for sharing. I use a local powdercoat company often and will be having them powdercoated. I'll probably take a few samples to see what ends up being close. Still need to get all me spare wheels together though. Two more to get haha.

Yeah you just tell the tire tech than installs them to flip them around backwards if they have too.

For what it's worth I run my tires with no wheel weights and instead use balance beads (well airsoft BB's to be precise) and have had no issues with my TPMS sensors. I've heard people say not to run balance beads with TPMS as it will damage the sensors but I have had no issues, been running this way for a year now.

As life would have it, I actually have steel wheel TPMS sensors from a Scion xD in my alloy SCS wheels at the moment, also with the airsoft balance method.

    Again no issues.

It's pretty commonplace to have your steel wheel TMPS sensor bodies flipped around and vice versa, if you have a tire shop that won't do that for you or insists on you buying new TPMS sensors from them in order for it to work with the wheels you need to find a different tire shop.

    Hope that helps.

Both are conical seat and correct thread so either will work on steel wheels. Only reason to use spline drive would be a tight clearance application (like some aluminum wheels) where you can't get a normal socket or lug wrench in place. Ideally, measure the hex size on the factory lug nuts (or lug wrench) and match that if possible so you don't have to have an extra tool to carry in case of a flat tire.

I really think for an MGM truck, a silver paint would look best. I like the white on most other trucks. The grey would look good on one of the reds.

Holy sh*t- I just got a quote of $150 per wheel for powder coating the steel wheels. Remember USA friends, I'm up in the not free and expensive Kanuckistan. It may be better to just go with the 16" TRD PRO wheels.

Installed my first set of ST Maxx this week. 255/80/17 on FJ style steelies from ebay.
I decided to color match the MGM using Dupli-Color rattle can.
I'm really liking the look they gave the truck.
This dessicion was based on the good looking trucks in this thread.

How do you like those tires? I’m thinking of going that route with my FJ steelies but I’m worried about weight and rubbing. I do have a 2.5” ome lift.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
My steel ones came with caps. Non-capped on the spare.
