If I'm reading your question right, take a look at my post from last year: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/show-off-your-steel-wheels.467479/page-42#post-27373198

The OEM center caps just clip into the 17" FJ wheels with the metal tabs that are on them.

Your wheels would have to have those little notches around the hub hole to accommodate caps. Not all wheels do.

I seriously love this. I was actually talking to my neighbor about doing this same look but with white letter tires. Great job

All stock ‘23 SR 4x4 with the OEM steel rims. Looking for info on other sizes for the OEM rims, other than stock 245/75/16. I read the tread and was able to see some sizes in photos but unsure if mods were done to accommodate those sizes. Want tire size that will work with all stock SR parts. Thanks in advance! Or send me a link cause I was unable to find info in searches.

@E2J how about a 265/70R-16 for a wider stance and works with no rub on factory steel wheels.

Trying to decide between 17" black steelies and 17" takeoffs on my 2nd gen. Anyone think the weight of steelies is an issue with 255/85R17 (or any 33") tire with the 2.7?

Are the FJ steelies 7" wide? Does anyone know if the 4runner spare is the same part number?

Do you know how wide these are?

18" Tundra steel wheels (on a 100 series) would be 5 lug. Wont fit any Tacomas, ect.

FJ Cruiser steel wheels are 17x7.5

Found on Ebay for $90 a rim. Tires from Wal-Mart for $200. Just trying to find the cheapest way to see if I like this look. I like this look. Will get some better tires, powder coat the rims, and get some caps.

If you don’t want to pay for powder coating consider rattle can. Check out post#923. A little elbow grease but good results.

Steel wheels wear well, they don't necessarily stand out as having cosmetic damage like an immaculate alloy does. This means you can casually paint them repeatedly, and let that finish fade if you want too and it probably wont look conspicuous.

I had steelies on an older car and eventually painted them brown and put a thin coat of semigloss black over that. Interesting effects as they fade and get dusty/filthy.

has anyone rattle canned two coats of two different colors, one right after the other? Did they mix . . . ?

I want to try green under gray or pink under gray

I think steelies having no lines (just circle shapes) can make things pop because your eye is like processing less 3d detail

Is there any company out there making new steel wheels that fit the Tacoma, like 16x8 or 17x8 with 0 offset that looks like FJ wheels?
I have a 23 TRD DC and would really like a set to replace the factory ones. The factory wheels are nice but I would rather have something different and simple, The steel FJ wheels fit the bill perfectly, for me anyway.

the fj steelies are what you want, but these are visually the same, just .5” narrower. the fj steelies are 17x7.5

    Hey guys,

I currently have 16” 3rd Gen Tacoma steelies that I had powder coated in a shade of white about 8 months ago.

I am considering having them recoated to more of a cream / tan color. I spray painted my spare wheel tan for a reference, as can be seen in the image.

    What is your opinion?
Keep ‘em white or go tan?

Personally I prefer the white as it "pops" against the MGM.

Why not a shade of gray. I thought about gray for my truck but white won out. Massey Ferguson gray is a nice shade.

I like the white better also. I picked up a set of FJ steelies that I'm thinking about painting white, but I'm still not sure how it would look on a red first Gen. I guess that's the good thing about painting them, you can change the color if you don't like it. I'm just waiting for it to warm up so I can paint them.
