I'd air down by about 10 to 15 psi - 20 at the most (depending on what pressure you normally run). If you are going to be going more that 30 or 35 mph, then i wouldn't drop the pressure more than 15.

If he's driving on the street, air down is not what he wants to do. He wants to cut through the snow/slush. Not float on it. He wants to get traction on the road.

Just maintaining normal pressure is fine.

If there's ice underneath though, nothing helps but studs or chains.

This guy knows better than I do. I'm in south west Tn, we see snow once a year. But I've wheeled in snow before. That's where i got the air down idea because it helped alot..... yeah listen to this guy.

I don't know what the hell I'm talking about :anonymous:

ok thanks I've drove in snow a lot but like 3 4 inches in a civic but nothing this deep and not with a 4wd. Yea I won't be off-road I just have to travel on paved back roads that won't be scraped my county is so slack at plowing every year.

Just watch taking turns with regard to understeer and oversteer. 4wd on a truck can induce it to do both (since the back end is so light). Additionally, 4wd doesn't help on braking, on downhills, and on ice. So just be conservative and take your time. Brake on the straights, before the turn, not during the turn

As mentioned, skinny tires bite through the snow and give traction. Fat tires slip on top of the snow. It typically isn't the going that gives you problems but the stopping. Steer clear of people driving fast in 4wd vehicles. Find an empty large parking lot and try some starts, stops and turns to see how your truck behaves as it is currently equipped.

That's why it was normally pretty hard to get a Model T or a Model A stuck in the snow

After 30+ years of playing in the snow in big trucks, I'm perfectly content to sit inside by the woodstove with some hot chocolate and let the snow just pile up!IMG_2424.jpg
