I bet tons of truck owners where I live would love to roll on MT all year but due to local law we are required to have snow flake rated tires or chains... So MT is out the window around here come Oct 31

Can't you just run MT's and carry chains around like I do?

Sure but with the amount of black ice and wet snow you would be better off with a dedicated winter tire .... People run MT's and no chains and just hope they don't get caught by inspection

Here's the funny part. Lots of MT and AT tires have a "Snow and Mud" rated print on the tires. Ive heard of people getting pulled over and arguing that their tires are "snow" rated because it says so on the tire. Officer gave them a ticket. Person went to court and won lol. But here in the West Kootenays, i run a dedicated winter tire with the snow flake. BFG A/T and General AT2 make a snowflake version that is legal. But i wouldnt run them around here

Lol no it's a Canadian thing except for the banana belt aka south coast. Naw Jk, I think it's for mountain highways and northern areas. I'm really not sure about other provinces but anywhere around here, not just whistler, have the same rule.

More north is even sooner like Oct. 1 where my bro lives ( west of williams lake) The rule starts just after squamish on the 99 going north. And doesn't stop as far as I have gone (Alaska)

Unfortunately being a resort town we get every vancouver / wash. State driver who has summer tires and no idea how to drive up here in their SUV ripping apples around town.

Lol ya a lot of misinformed people out there... I'm glad they won in court though haha...

I actually liked the BFG AT KO's for snow in my 1st gen... They were small and skinny though so they cut thru snow... But they wore out quickly I thought.

A lot of buddies rock the ice type highway snow tires but they look lame haha so I'm keeping the duras and crappy ice traction lol

I just drop the pressure down to 20-25psi for winter and mine KM2's handle ice just well. I was running 265/70R16 Michelin LTX A/T2's that seemed to do just as well on the slick roads as my KM2's. They aren't a dedicated snow tire, but they are a pretty good A/T.

Winter tires are only required in Quebec and the mountainous regions of BC.

I run these in the winter. 265/75/16 dedicated winter tire. Under $150/tire lasts 2-3 winters

Isn't the rule " carry chains " ? So you could run MT's as long as you carry chains , no ?

That's how I took it? I imagine there is a point where they tell you to chain up, (I think California will anyway) but I took it as carry and I do carry. haha I picked my chains up because my LTX's didn't have enough grip offroad like my KM2's do and I still carry them just because I have no where to store them.
