Nobody has to do it. Some of us enjoy it and earn a respectable living from it.

I think what he meant is that if you chose it as a job, you have to do it everyday and work on whatever comes your way, vs. as a hobby you can pick and choose when you want to and what you want to work on. However, if you enjoy it, then it is all good. My brother is a mechanic and loves it. Every car he works on is special for him, partly because he knows he can help someone who cannot do the work for themselves.

I worked as an express tech for a couple months. Learned alot, but after work I was too tired from working on everyone else's car, to enjoy working on mine.

I got out, and now "enjoy" doing what I can myself. If I cant do it, ill pay someone. But I want to learn more!

i do have to say its not what the box looks like. its about the tools inside and the person using them.

I finished mech school, worked it for 1.5 years. Couldn't see doing it for another 30. Went back to school and did industrial maintenance for 20 years. Have since moved to hospital maintenance (easier on the body). The hospital supplies all my tools. So all my tools came home along with my purpose built tool cart that I had at the factory.

Has anyone bought a Husky toolbox recently? It looks like only a handful of people have them on here. I was leaning toward this model: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-46...-with-Solid-Wood-Top-Black-7440946R/206839475. It looks like its rated well on home depots website.

Otherwise I'd be looking at the Harbor Freight model that a lot of people have: .

I saw the garage journal article didn't rate Husky well, but it is almost 5 years old.

I have the Husky (bought it about 2 years ago). I don't have any issues or concerns. It is not exactly the same model as what you are looking at, but seems to be similar for comparison. This one is 41 or 42".

I know the HF 44" rates good also.

Harbor freight has boxes like those ^^^ for around $9. They look better too as the little boxes inside are individual and can be taken out and moved around. I have a bunch for all my nuts/bolts/ elec. connections and just pull out the little box I need. Plus, you can drop the whole thing and nothing will move out of place.

I find it very disturbing that I have advocated Harbor Freight products twice in this thread already.

That's the box I have now. I mainly bought it because HF is an hour away and I didn't feel like making a new wood top for the HF box. The Husky is good and I really like the worktop on it. But, I think the drawer slides on the HF box are better. I have a ton of sockets and they fill up the entire top, full width shelf. The Husky works fine with the weight but you have to push from the middle or the drawer binds. I never had that problem with the HF box. The metal on the HF feels thicker too. I like the Husky box and it will suit most people well for a long time, but for the same price, I think the HF is a better choice. Either way, they are both better than the last Craftsman Pro I owned.

Trac rac, tow hitch, fog lights, tonneau cover, Texas Edition rims, custom console, weathertech floor mats.
Some crappy quality shots of my wood boxes. The tools in these are all for mikes and gauges. Of course my hand tools are in a big roll around at work and another large Kennedy roll around in the garage. These 2 are sitting on a double wide Lista cabinet.
Amazing how many tools I have acquired through the years.

Yeah, I swore I'd never make a major HF purchase, but the reviews of the 44" here swayed me. Very pleased so far. As far as fastener storage, a few of these in a shop would be ideal...
