I've been looking into getting an old military trailer. All of them use pintle hitches. does anyone on here pull with a pintle hitch? Is there anything special about them? Do you have pictures, too?

Alright guys i know our trucks are rated at 6500 lbs towing but how are our trannys built? Im towing a 21ft boat that weighs roughly 5000lbs loaded, now it has a dual axle trailer with a surge brake on one axle. My truck tows it fine, doesnt like hills to much so im sure dropping it in and taking it out of the water it doesnt like either even though its a short time period. That being said am I destroying my transmission? How good are our trannys built and how much can they take?

Just passing along what I've read on here - the general consensus is that the automatic is stronger than the manual. But both are sufficient for occasional towing like you're doing.

I really don't think you're destroying it if you do that short distances and occasionally. That being said, that weight might warrant the age old "towing in D or 4" conversation. I'm not a mechanic but I'd put my money on it being fine. Now on the other hand, surge brakes don't inspire confidence.

Havent been on here in a while. Towed a Bobcat 425 mini excavator from Gainesville to Mt. Airy (roughly 20 miles) to grade some of my yard. It weighs roughly 6200lbs. pulled fine but hated the hills. And didn't like stopping it. So brake booster is getting installed soon! Has a leveling kit on the tuck so looks reaaaalllly squatted. Plus the idiot at the rental place loaded it with the boom forward.

No pic unfortunately, but I towed a 6x12' Uhaul loaded with lots of heavy antique furniture this weekend. My guess is that the trailer weighed around 3000 lbs. It was my first time towing with the Taco, 4.5 hours, even split between country highway and interstate. All in all the truck did great. Stopping power was good, acceleration was decent, the only issues I had was the frequent downshifts on the hills on the interstate, but all in all, I was pretty impressed! Solid truck so far!

I towed this 19' trailer from Maryland to New Mexico and Colorado on a 3 week trip this summer. My gas mileage definitely suffered, keeping it in 4th gear on the highway, and it automatically downshifted on any grade. My normal mileage runs anywhere from 15-20, but on the trip it averaged 7-9mpg. The trailer is just over 3100 empty and dry, but with the truck and trailer loaded, my guess was closer to 4500 pounds.

this was during the summer. The tractor is roughly 3500ish and the trailer is 3000ish. Only had to tow to the barn which was down the road, and then back to another barn where it stays to be used weekly.

Best i got at the moment. First one is apple wood, and the second is just some hardwood i think. It needs to be dried and then split.

Yes, but it was worth it. We stayed in a lot of great state parks and other places in New Mexico.

applewood was dry so probably a couple hundred (maybe 3ish), and the other picture I think is either a hardwood that was fresh cut so its closer to the 600-700 range. If it wasn't for the sagging leafs you wouldn't even know it was there.
