A buddy I work with did exactly this with his brand new Tacoma and his suspension never came back up lol. He had a really hard time getting the dealership to replace the rear suspension under warranty. They wouldn't even admit that there was a problem even though it was pretty much riding the bumps lol. Be careful out there folks...

2005-Tacoma: Two Polaris RZR 800's. With trailer right around 3500 pounds.

2013-Tundra: 30 foot Shockwave toy hauler. Dry weight is 6, 800. Loaded with gear, 120 Gallons of water, and two RZR 800's it weighs in at 11,000 pounds. The Tundra tows it better any any 3/4 gas truck.

 I use my truck as a tool also. But there is the right tools for the job. And Tacomas are not the right tool for 1 ton of anything.

you are right there is a correct tool for the job. But you have to figure out if it's worth buying that tool if you use it once and a blue moon. 1 load of a ton of rocks shouldn't kill the truck and if it does thats pathetic. if I get more work in redoing a whole yard I'll buy something but for now It got the one job done

I never expected anyone to agree with me on this job but it can be done. Not Abuse I put the truck through regularly

It's not pathetic if the truck is not made to handle that payload...

Also another thing to consider is the safety of others around you. That's a lot of weight to try to stop, and its not going to happen quickly. Specialy with a truck not designed for it.

Honestly I could care less what you do with/to your truck. Just sayin...

There is also a vent towards the front that you are suppose to open up when traveling. It acts like a hood scoop and sucks air in. In the rear there is another vent that allows the air to escape. We have never had a problem with fumes in there at all. We also haul them with empty fuel tanks to help. Also, don't haul gas cans in them or try to fuel your machines inside the trailer. Toy-haulers typically have a fuel cell with an electric pump to fuel your machines when you get where you're going. And to top it all off, my wife loves the scentsy products so the trailer doesn't even smell like camping.

Most toy haulers have two small access panels at the rear and near the floor that are there to allow air in and fumes out.

I had a toy hauler for a few years and never had gas fumes in the trailer. I hauled three Honda dirt bikes many miles and places. There was gas in the motorcycle gas tanks and extra gas was stored underneath the toy hauler in a fuel tank for the generator and fuel station that was built in. Basically an electric pump w/ a gas nozzle to fill what ever you needed to fill. It was super convenient and would recommend that option along w/ the generator on any toy hauler you may purchase. Pricey, but well worth it.

Wife and I traded in our Jayco Sport 10 Pup for a Jayco Featherlite X20e Hybrid. I'm picking it up in about 3 hours.
After seeing what everyone is pulling, I'm pumped and even more in love with my Taco. Thanks for this thread guys/gals.

Dry it's 4000lbs (incl dual Propane tanks filled), 4750 loaded. TW is about 430Lbs I believe. It's 21Ft Long.

Ordered the Equalizer 10K WD kit and Towing Mirrors from Rob (GB#2) and had both drop shipped to Odgensburg. I'll be picking those up this weekend at the border. Works great for me living in Ottawa, it's only 30 Min to the border.

Thanks again for the Mirrors Rob. 3 day shipping from Kansas blows me away.

I'll post pics of the entire setup once everything is installed.

And for the record, I used to pull my PUP in 4th during the long climbs as well, although unlike the PUP, I don't think I'll try pulling this new rig up the Cabot Trail when we head to the East Coast again. LOL

A lot of people seem to bring up the caution of stopping a load when the truck has exceeded it's payload but consider this: The truck's payload is relatively low and easy to exceed. It's also not uncommon to carry 2-3000 lbs in a trailer that doesn't have any brakes and the truck stops it just fine. While I wouldn't condone overloading the truck, the brakes will stop the load just fine. At that weight, I would say any damage done would be to the wheel bearings if anything.

I think you are closer to being correct than wrong but there actually is a few minor factors working for you when pulling a trailer of the same weight. From my experience pulling the same weight verses carrying the same weight the trailer is easier to stop and harder to move from a dead stop. I always figured tire and bearing friction combined with aerodynamics were the contributing factors. While working in the nursery business as a young adult I often towed and pulled very similar weights on the same roads.

No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
I have posted some where in here. but our trailer/rhino and an atv weigh about 3k giver or take a few 100. I tow it on hills up to 5% grades at 75mph with no trailer brakes and can stop it pretty fast without any real problems. ya it takes longer than without the load at all, but thats to be expected.
I kinda feel the say way. I have hauled stuff(not necessarily in the taco) but have hauled loads in the bed of trucks and towed same loads and feel for the most part they always handle better when towing than hauling stuff in the bed.

I get what your saying, and agree with the potential wheel bearing damage, but...
I also agree with towing and hauling being different animals.

How much does your trailer weight if you don't mind me asking? Looks good hauling yota with a yota :)
