you ordered the tekonsha toyota harness? that makes it easy.

I cut the bracket down on mine so it would sit closer to the mounting surface.

As info there is (an expensive) Tekonsha wireless option. Might find it cheaper elsewhere. Nice as the controller doesn't have to be under the dash or anywhere else in the way when you are not using it. You can also use the same controller in more than one vehicle. Note that using with more than one vehicle does require that each trailer have a receiver (shown in linked video). I've been using it for the last 4 years; first on a Subaru/pop-up and now the Tacoma/Rockwood Mini-Lite.

that hitch weight seems wrong. it should be 10-15% of the trailer weight... at least 650 lbs if the trailer is loaded to the max, with about 1800 lbs of payload including water above its 'curb weight'.

I'd try and stay on the light side of that trailers load rating when you're towing it with a tacoma, 6500 is the max tow with the factroy tow kit, and 650 lbs of tongue weight leaves you like 550 lbs of driver/passengers + gear. more hitch weight leaves even less.

a weight distributing hitch will likely make that tacoma+trailer ride /way/ better....

otoh, i see you're in florida. thats the land of flatness, I guess, so maybe its not a big deal.

one of the lighter loads the Tacoma's ever pulled is the 30 year old lawn tractor I'm restoring.

it cleaned up nice. and with a home made hitch and some other new gear, it can move my trailer around the year and driveway with ease. different kind of tow rig :)

I guess it's actually closer to 35-40 years old. That's a great rig you've got. I've been wanting to get into vintage tractors for a while, so this is just my first small stepping stone, to ease into it before I go for something bigger and older.

Picked up my '17 Shasta Oasis 18BH yesterday. And to answer my own question for anyone out there interested, it's 19" 22" to the top of the ball receiver.

Anyway, it was my first time towing anything. The experience was a bit nerve racking. I thought I was doing something wrong because EVERYBODY was passing me. But I guess I pass trailers all the time, so I quickly learned to ignore that. There was noticeable sway. Would you guys recommend a WDH to alleviate this? TT is 3200lb. Also, I NEED to get towing mirrors! Any recommendations?

IMHO, solid axle RWD trumps FWD every time in towing. a tacoma non-4x4 trd sport would be superior to a 4x4 (or prerunner) TRD offroad due to the shorter sidewall 17" wheels and lower/stiffer suspension
