I rented a 6x12 trailer from Uhaul yesterday. It weighed 1920 lbs empty. I loaded it with couple dressers, grill and different household items. On my second trip from the house, I put the tractor in it as well. I am not sure what the total weight was, but I felt the weight without a doubt.
It was a local move , 7 miles away. But it was fun towing. Haven't towed in a while.

I towed my buddies broke ass ranger, or "Kia spectra" without any issues. Just took it slow and steady and gave myself more than enough room to stop.

All season mats, 2nd filter delete, DT header, Jardine cat-back, URD shifter, Bilstein 5100's all around at .85 front with Eibachs + .25 passenger/.5 drivers spacers and 1.5 AAL, 0w20 synthetic, Scanguage II, extra D rings, OEM backup camera+Mirror, bed mat, Extang Solid Fold, Popnlock 5300, Pro Comp 7089's 4.5bs 285/70/17 Revo 2s, De-badged
How much does that tractor weight? Trying to decide if the v6 could handle my 780lb atv in the back and pulling my 3000lb camper (3200lbs camp ready).
I put the atv in the back of my 4 cylinder and towed a 1500lb tent trailer but I think the full travel trailer in the wind will make a big difference

My 2005 towing our Passport Elite 23RB (4700# dry), Blue Ox weight dristribution hitch, Tekonsha P3 brake controller, and Tyger tow mirrors. Picked it up from the dealer Saturday and home to load and then a local campground to get acquainted. Truck does fine. Very happy with the setup.

You can definitely tell it's back there.

I realize it's not really balanced with the way the tractor is pulled on there. It definitely isn't over the payload capacity though of this truck, even with a heavy bias toward tongue-weight.

On a related note, I can't wait to get some new springs

yeow, thats nearly double the tacoma's rated tow capacity. whats the tongue weight? 10% of 11000 is 1100 lbs, which is the entire payload capacity of a DC. 15% would be like 1650 lbs, which is way over the tacoma's payload, and all of that is sitting on the rear axle.

Tongue weight is typically only 5-7% on boat trailers.

Thanks for the info! I have a 26' Chris-Craft (8-9k loaded) that I have been thinking about moving from the marina to the mechanic, about 3 miles.

Maybe y'all can help me! I'll be installing a brake controller. But I have no idea what I'm looking at or looking for.
I'll be pulling a tear drop trailer. Curb weight of 1400#. Tongue weight of 140#. There will only be a minimal of items added for this trip (clothes and essentials. It's justbyhectripmto pick it up and get it home...)

    What do I need?
    Is installation DIY?
What should I expect to spend on this unit?

Brake controller install is very easy if you already have the factory tow package. Their will be a connector hidden behind the drivers footplate. You can loosen the plastic nut and gently pry to the kick plate back and it will be buried with the wiring harness.
Next you will need the pigtail to go from the connector to the brake controller. I'm using this one.https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00T36OC7O/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Next mount your controller where you can easily reach the buttons and manual override lever while driving. Allot of folks mount theirs inside the cubby to the left of the dash but my Switchpro was already thereceived so I shut mounted it underneath the dash.

You have allot of controller options. I'm using the tekansha P3 https://www.amazon.com/Tekonsha-90195-Electronic-Brake-Control/dp/B000P17NXQ and highly recommend it. It has an accelerometer built in for inertial braking and also has boost settings which are really nice with a smaller tow vehicle.

    20160716_085902.jpg

Also found this in the manual. You shouldn't have to worry about a WDH or sway controll but they do make a nice improvement.
