How's the boat perform and does it handle more than 6 people fine? Curious for a myriad of reasons if you don't mind my asking.

This is what we've been looking at getting, meets our families needs and has plenty of power and space plus it's lighter than many others is what I've read.

It does well if a mixture of kids and adults. 6 grown men gets cramped. Boat holds 9 but way to crowded imo

12,000 lb bars for a 3,000 lbs trailer is overkill. I have the same hitch and pull around 4,000 lbs and use 6,000 lbs bars. If you go to the manufactures website there is info on this. The bars are design to work around a given weight and allow the bars to bend when going over bumps.

I have a 2010 Sport with towing package and tow a Palomino Gazelle 210. Estimated weight around 4500lbs. Pulled well but didn't like big hills or headwinds much. Went from Calgary Alberta to southern Utah so went over those high passes on I15. Speeds were about 55 to 60 mph most of the way with rpms around 2500, peaking at 3300 at one point. Fuel economy not great so I would recommend planning your fuel stops and perhaps keep a 5 gallon gas can in the box. I hope this is useful.

Don’t know these folks, but wanted to say I saw you a liked your rides!

The red 3rd Gen I met in Amarillo, TX. They’re from SW Utah. Oddly, they live in the same county we now reside in!

Was your teardrop built by Camp-Inn?

No, but I did talk with them. At the time their idea of custom and mine didn't jive, so I borrowed the ideas that I liked and built it the way I wanted. Overall size is close but I have more ground clearance and a track width that matches the truck. I left out a lot of things that they do, such as plumbing, shore power, air conditioner, etc to keep it simple. It's basically a hard sided tent that sleeps two kids and two adults that I can leave stocked up and ready to go.

    More on the build here:

Beautiful trailer and great build thread!

I used to follow things over at the tnttt forum (Indycubby). I made a homebuilt teardrop about 15 years ago based on the 8’ cubby design.....and then about 6 yrs ago built a 5x8’ trailer based on the “weekender” plan. Sold them both.....turns out I really loved the design/building aspect of tiny trailers more than camping in them. Now we have a fairly large Jayco popup that suits us a bit better. The whole tiny trailer “culture” is quite fun and quirky, though.....great people in that whole scene!

Anyway, love the trailer! Happy camping!

Agreed. You should use bars rated for your trailer. Oversized bars can cause damage to your trailer frame.

What is the listed dry weight of your trailer? My new trailer is 4200# dry, I've only brought it home so far and I'm already looking at changing the gear ratio.

Should be concern about the total max weight. After adding propane, water and all the stuff you plan to bring that weight creeps up surprizingly fast.

Full propane is part of the dry weight. I figure on ~800# and maybe less as hauling water won't be happening, I won't fill the tank until I'm through the heavy lifting.

I always use the gross trailer weight on the sticker to determine if my truck can safely tow it. When I take the weight of my cargo in the truck (passengers and gear) and take the GVW of the trailer to get the GCVW (gross combined vehicle weight) I'm looking at a trailer with a maximum weight of 6,060 lbs. That would mean that I should be looking at a trailer dry weight of no more than 4500 lbs in most cases. It's easy to say "well I won't trailer with water or I'll put less in the trailer" but you always plan for the max weight for the added safety margin.
