Man you guys about these trucks like religion and politics. Here’s my turn at satire.

I pledge allegiance to my boosted friends on the second gen forum of TW. I promise to only support those that think and drive as I do. Never allowing a third gen to be held above a second gen. All hail the mighty 4.0.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thy rust.
    Blessed art thou amongst sand,
and blessed is the fruit of thy salty roads.
    Holy Mary, Mother of Rust,
    pray for us 2ndgenners,
now and at the hour of our frame recall. Amen.

4000 is PEAK torque. The 4.0 torque curve shows higher torque along the entire curve than the 3.5. Power looks significantly lower on these dyno pulls, but the torque is way better according to the graph. Not sure why it never reached rated horsepower or torque, must be because they measured it at the wheels and not at the crank.2015-12-17_20-42-58.jpg

No its showing mph of the wheels. It doesn't seem like a good comparison, but its all I could find. Shows the 3rd gen has a lot more power but the torque curve of the 2nd gen is much better

if we cant compare rpms this doesnt help your argument..because we are talking about rpms..

If anything this hurts you because you cant tell that the graph is not relevant.

Alright. I'll give you that. I still think the graph is relevent though because it shows what power and torque is coming to the wheels. We can only assume the rpms are lower on the 2nd gen since the trans has one less gear and the redline is 1000rpms less on the 2nd gen engine.

no we cant assume that, you know why? because it doesnt show rpm.

you might be right idk but that graph isnt helpful

that graph also isnt showign which engine it is. could be the supercharged one...

I guess I don't really understand this one the Tacoma is a mid size truck it's made for lighter duty like a small trailer with a couple snow machine's stuff like that. I have pulled a car on a trailer with a full-sized truck and you can definitely tell you got some weight on it so no offense to anyone but guys saying they are pulling these huge loads up hill and down hill and everything else with no problems I just have a hard time seeing that one.

just got back from a 350 mile trip towing my 3500 lb boat. Ran it in S4 with ect on. Got about 11 mpg. Towed great. Even in some very windy conditions. Never went over 4 grand on the tach even climbing some big hills. We went about 60 mph. My 2nd gen with the 4.0 got about 10 mpg on the same trip. I still like my 3rd gen over the 2nd gen in all aspects. Comfort, power, towing. Hell, even pulled both of my buddies huge ski boats (over 6k lbs) out of the boat launch with absolutely no problems, we were surprised how well this little truck pulled those tournament boats out of the water. Used 4 lo. Still super happy with my 3rd gen.

It doesn't show rpm, but it shows ground speed in high gear, that is the same liner scale as rpm.
