you have a 1" spacer stacked on top of 855's ... thats gotta be hurting something. a spacer lift is bad enough, but stacking one on top of OME coils has bad news all over it. what kinda shocks do you have? do you at least have aftermarket UCA's? not tryin to flame you, i've just never heard of anyone actually doing that before.

i can't compare apples to apples because i haven't had 285 width tires on my truck. generally speaking unsprung weight makes a huge difference in perceived power getting to the road and the more weight you add to the wheels/tires the more energy it takes to rotate them. that was my biggest concern, not necessarily just the gas mileage. my countersteer wheels are about 8 lbs lighter than the stock sport wheels and my 265/75 duratracs are 45lbs which is only 10 lbs heavier than my stock sport tires, so i only added a total of about 2 lbs of unsprung weight to each corner.

when you start looking at the 285 width tires most of them weigh close to 60 lbs a piece if not more, and if you aren't careful about which aftermarket wheels you couple them with you can also be adding another 5 lbs or so on top of that. you will definitely notice an added 30lbs of unsprung weight to each corner.

again, not everyone may be concerned with those things but for me it was a big deal and i think my combo looks good while still being very practical.

3" lift using Fox Shocks Coilover, Total Chaos UCA's. Running: Duratrac 285/70/17 Rear suspension just a 1" block for now. Will have custom rear springs no block. Fox w/ Resi.
I just got my lift on yesterday. Been a lot of research and going back and forth making sure its what I wanted.

I agree thats its very important to pick the correct tire/wheel combo thats not too heavy. I was going to go with Open Country MT Toyos, but man they are way too heavy, at 62+pounds per tire for 285s. I decided to go with the Duratracs.

Running 2.5 CO Fox Shocks and Total Chaos UCA. The rear is a 1.5 block for a few more weeks, just until I get my 2.5" lift Alcan Springs built and i will probably put Bilstein Shocks in the rear. decided on 285/70/17, rubs only when in reverse at full clock.

I recently went from 265/75-16 BFG Mud Terrains which weighed in at 54lbs to 285/75-16 Pro Comp Xtreme All Terrains which weigh in at 33lbs. I haven't noticed a decrease in gas mileage or power loss. I had to do some very minor trimming on the wheel well plastic but it's no where close to hitting my cab mount. I am very happy I was able to go with 33's and have no loss of power or decrease MPG plus I think the bigger tires look better and will perform better when offroad.

Well i bought the 885's from toytec in one of their original batches..... they were old when they sold them to me and they sagged a LOT...... so i had to order a spacer to compensate for the sag. Anyhow, my cv's are actually quite straight with a slight angle..... as you can see in the pics next to Andrews truck, i am the same height and he has camburg coils, so i know that they have sagged. As for the shocks, i have 5100's. No aftermarket uca's either.

Ill eventually replace my setup with some coilovers but for now this will do fine.

I went for the more conservative method but am extremely happy with my look and performance. Plus I can still get in the garage!

Short of weighing the tire (hard to do, until you've actually bought it, and then it's probably mounted on the rim) how are you guys finding out these tire weights? They don't appear on the mfg web site with all the other specs.

Holy carp! The Pro Comp tire is BIGGER and it weighs 20lbs LESS?

If that's the case, I am *not* buying the assertion that those procomps are as durable off road as the BFGs.

TireRack.com has weights on all of their tires (they have most tires listed). If you're looking at a tire not listed there, check around on various websites (Google does wonders ;)) - many will list weights as well.

When searching, this is what I do:
    1. Narrow the list of tires down to tires that are well regarded and get good reviews.
    2. Eliminate any tire with low tread depth (anything less than 16/32" isn't worth it to me).
    3. Then, I compare the weight.

Price is sort of factored in last, but is really left till the very end. I just look at what tires fits those criteria and then make sure I can afford it. I try not to let actual price bother me too much because I'm pretty sure an extra potential $1-200 should not affect my decision on a tire that should last me another 3-4 years (I average about 15k miles per year).

The stated weight for the Pro Comps is actually so low, I strongly suspect it's either a typo or some other mistake. That's a much bigger difference than even the diff between a P vs. LT tire of the same size.

I wouldn't accept that weight for that tire unless verfied by some other credible source.

EDIT: according to this site: http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT-Tires/Pro-Comp-Xtreme-all-terrain.htm

in 285/75R16, the ProComp eXtreme A/T weighs 54.8 - which is roughly comparable to the BFGs of the same size: 59lbs.

And, as I think about it more - I'm aware of the concept of rotating weights, and the desire to keep unsprung weight down. Even acknowledging that, however, I'm going to prefer the more durable tire for off-roading, to the lighter tire.

The ProComp 7031s are my top choice right now. Same black on super white truck in 17"

Have any trouble with the backspacing and the 285s? The 17s have 4.75" and although I'll be running 265s at first, I'll be getting 285s most likely after the lift.

i have 285's with 4.75" backspaced rims. i did some trimming to the rear fender, and cut my body mount. it was easy. i hace a front bumper from
cbi offroad, so all i had to deal with was the rear fender as far as rubbing goes.
