While lakes dont have the same flare as the ocean, my local lakes are pretty special even if the sailing season is really short. I sail on Jackson lake (wy), yellowstone lake (wy), bear lake (ut), and freemont lake (wy)

can confirm, have done that

I have sailed on mountain lakes, just not ones that get solid every winter!

 

The solid one are when the sailing gets exciting!

 

It goes plenty high enough, even with my boat trailer that has dual independent torsion axles. The company also makes a model that goes even higher if you need it. Most enclosed trailers have linked spring axles and that goes plenty high enough for any of the half dozen, dual axle trailers I've owned.

Your comment about not changing a flat... I have never understood when people say this about dual axle trailers, and you aren't alone, I've heard that for years. Keep in mind I have many, many thousands upon thousands of miles towing my dual axle trailers. I tow the enclosed snowmobile trailer at least 3 or 4 thousand miles a winter. People always say that you can drive with one tire flat- there is no way I could ever do that. My mind won't allow me to potentially trash a tire that might be able to be repaired. AND, if you are going to jack the trailer up and put a freakin' chain on it??? What in the ever loving name of Pete makes a man think that is easier than just putting a spare on?? If it's jacked up, it's going to take 3 minutes for me to change to the spare, of which I carry two of. Anyway, that's my opinion about it!

 

Have you ice boated? I always wanted to try - they go sooooooooo fast!

I'm sure the capsizes hurt, though.

 

This is me. I borrowed my neighbors iceboat because mine was being repaired at the time. It wasn’t very windy that day, so I was only going about 50 mph. Still was fun though.

However, to me, sailing is about bare feet and shorts and sunscreen! LOL

 

Wipeouts in this class are exceedingly rare! I did hit some open water a few years ago, that was interesting.

ya, ive got skiing and snowmobiling for the winter. im more than happy to keep sailing at all of 6knts with a beer in hand and a rail in the water.

 

You’ve never felt the pure acceleration that comes from being hit by a puff. Even super bikes don’t take off like that. It’s a true adrenaline dump!

Speaking of acceleration, did anyone watch the America's Cup last month?

Foiling 75' monohulls, doing upwards of 50 knots in 15 MPH winds!

 

They are like slow iceboats, similar in how they sail, same tactics and sailing angles, but about half the speed to due the water friction. I bet they'd be a blast to sail, not that us mere mortals would ever have a chance!

 

Our women also come out in summer, and many are stunners
