One of my family members used to live on a houseboat. He said that boat stands for "break out another thousand"

It does! And once you've worked up to a certain size, Its spelled boatt, and you break out another ten-thousand!

Im fortunate to only own an old little pontoon boat, but I've seen friends spend more filling their fuel tanks than I spent on my whole boat :)

People that say that are shitty boat owners.

Boat ownership isn’t that hard or expensive if you’re willing to even the slightest bit of googling or wrench turning.

My dad has had a boat since 1986 and definitely hadn't spent that much on it.

Our family has been the same. I'm not sure that we've ever done significant repairs at a shop. Just a bilge pump here and there and brakes/grease/tires on the trailer since we tow everywhere.

I've certainly done some damage at the ski shop on skis, handles and vests, but that's on me. I'm pretty damn particular and that's my own fault. :D

If you're paying to have every single thing done at a marine shop, it'll add up fast and take forever.

That saying has more to do with the amount of ‘float in your boat than the skills to turn wrenches.

Here’s my boat - ‘break out another ten-bucks

    IMG_0942.jpg

Here’s my buds boatt - ‘break out another ten thousand.

Some maintenance needs a shipyard, not a garage.

If anyone wants a money pit, try owning a mountain snowmobile. Spent way more on that machine compared to my 30 year old boat.

I've been thinking about getting one of those. Rented one in Daytona Beach last year. Fun!
