Have been pretty happy with my ARE. Third one I’ve had over the years. First one was about $800 new though.

ARE V series with OTR coating, windoors, and a Yakima heavy duty rack. Scored it used on FB market place and love it.

    Another question:

Has anyone tried to drill in roof rack rails on their camper shell? I have a SnugTop Rebel and mine did not come with railing and now Im wanting. I have an itch for a roof RTT.

    Any help? Thanks!

I have a set of Yakima round bars that if have used on my last two trucks. I kept them because I have collected so many accessories for them over the years. They use gutter mounts so I just bolted Yakima plates and stainless backing plates to my ARE. Did the same with my last truck as well and have had no issues. RTT on a shell has always kind of scared me but I see a lot of people doing it. Placement and weight ratings makes all the difference though I guess.

IMG_6379.jpg Snugtop Rebel with windoors and roof rails. $2200 used. Re-sprayed white. And I’ve achieved no-leak status, which is great.

Have a new ARE brand topper coming in another week for a "windchill white" dclb taco.
Went with windoors, 6" bump up, slider windows with screens in windoors, liner, etc. Haul bird dogs around hunting. Will post some pix when it arrives.

Did you buy the snug top with roof rails or did you DIY the rails?

ARE CX Classic installed about a month ago with fold-down front window, LED strips and dome light with prop switch, and head liner. Dealer did a good job of waterproofing. So far not a drop inside.

I had some installed at the place that I bought my Snugtop from in Long Beach. They installed the rails and my Prinsu for me.

IT IS DOABLE! The “shop” drills the rail mount holes whenever a customer wants them added, but it’s easy enough to do at home. Set whatever rack/track system on the topper, center(front to back, side to side) and mark the mount holes for the rack/track. Remove rack and set aside, apply masking tape to the marked locations, and drill through the fiberglass. If you fail to use masking tape, you’ll splinter the paint. Now upon install, ensure you use a sealant(3M black automotive adhesive) to ensure water tight(ask me how i know) and install hardware hand tight, then tighten incrementally to achieve “even clamp up” of rack and shell(TQ mount to spec if avail). *IF NO SEALANT IS USED, THE BARE FIBERGLASS IN THE MOUNT HOLES WILL ABSORB WATER, WHICH WILL CAUSE FIBERGLASS “DELAMINATION”. Hopefully that is of some help.
