Much more common as well as having brass option from Serbia.
If I went with 7.62x51, I would have just gotten an AR-10

In the name of full disclosure, my cohost and I (we run a podcast together) received one to test and evaluate. He ran it for a good bit without any stumbles, put his suppressor on his AR pistol and broke the folder’s latch mechanism in half a magazine. Both of us and the company agree it’s likely a heat treating issue from how it failed.

They sent us another one, which I have been running for about a year now without issue. Other than me not having a can, my pistol and my cohost’s aren’t radically dissimilar.

I don’t shill for anyone, if a product eats dirt I tell my listeners what happened. I have mixed feelings about this one because of the initial failure, but on the other hand it’s run flawlessly for a year since so....

Have you not put it back on the co-host's gun with the suppressor to see if the problematic part has been fixed? I would think that's one of the first things you would do if you knew a suppressed gun cause a failure or found a weak point.

Can you all briefly walk me through the AR pistol regulations? A paraphrased version is fine. Looking at the options for an 11.5 or 12.5".

Not much to it, basically if the barrel is shorter than 16in's and you don't want to get a tax stamp for an sbr, you need to use a pistol brace instead of a stock. You can add a vertical grip if the overall length of the gun is over 26in measure to the end of the barrel (not muzzle device). The gray area is where people say you need to start the measuring. (from the end of the extended brace, end of the buffer tube, or end of brace as long as it doesn't exceed 13 inches length of pull)
How you travel or carry the pistol varies by state laws.

Makes sense. The 26" is the NFA's number for an SBR. Are there specific lowers that are "pistols" or can you use any lower as long as it meets the other requirements (pistol brace, etc)

Technically, once a lower is built into a rifle, it can't be built into a pistol. If you bought a complete rifle and then wanted to build a pistol, you can't use that lower. If you buy a stripped lower and they mark it as a rifle and not "other" on the form, then you can not build it into a pistol.

If it's a folder, you measure from the back of the tube, while it's folded, to the end of the barrel.

If it's telescoping, you remove the brace and measure from the rear of the gun to the end of the barrel.

BATF put out a letter last year about it.

Wrong. Pistol first, it can always go back to pistol. Rifle first, can't go to pistol length unless it's SBR'd

BATF as put out a few letters on the subject. Some will contradict others. There really is no black or white regs and the BATF can change their opinion at any time.

You are correct, I did not think about starting as a pistol then to rifle. Basically what i was getting at is your second part. If it was bought as a rifle, don't build it into a pistol.

Definitely don't make that mistake lol. I always check 4473s so they don't say rifle or pistol, too.

Yep. Luckily, I haven't ran into that situation, but I have heard of it being done to people.

I have also. Read a story of an ffl who would refuse to mark the form as upper on a stripped lower and marked it as rifle. That would be the last time I ever spent money at that location. And that would be the last time any of my friends would too. It's not the end of the world b/c then I would just use that lower on a gun that I know would always be a rifle, but that's not the point.

If an FFL did that to me, I'd cancel the purchase and never return. I'd also go Karen on them online :bananadead:
