I’ve been trying to come up with a mounting solution for my bed fire extinguisher on the shell rail or in the corner like that. What do you have the quick fists attached to or did you through bolt them to the sell itself?

I made aluminum brackets that the quick fists mount to. They bolt onto the existing bolts from the latches in the shell at the bottom, and i bent the top pf the bracket back as an extra support against the inside of the shell.

Thanks for the reply. I just went ad looked at my shell and I’m not following what you said, mine doesn’t have any bolts in that area. Can you take a picture when you get a chance?

Gotcha. That's what I was expecting to do if that were the case.
Where did you find 2 sided hook velcro? I was looking last night and couldn't find it anywhere for the life of me. Only double sided with hook on one side and loop on the other

I used the adhesive velcro tape and adhered 2 strips together to have hook on both sides.

    Maybe 8 or 9.
I have 3 wolf packs and 2 cub packs and that leaves about half the bed open for a table, some chairs and stuff.
They do barely touch but don't push up on the bambed.

I think it is pretty hard to see in my photo, but the little u shaped latch catch is bolted onto the cap. I just used those bolts to mount the bracket I made.

Ok, I see what you did. I didn’t see any bolts on my topper (ARE MX) in that area. I’ll look again tomorrow to be sure. Thanks.

I've got an older Snugtop Xtra Vision. With as nice as ARE's are, probably not. I like to think mine is more industrial modern.

has anyone remade their platform a second time

my last one was 5/8 smooth plywood
I believe it's $150 a sheet at Home Depot and adds weight

thinking of making another one, but with cheaper thinner material
1/2", 3/8", etc. the "splintery" plywood finish, simply sand and paint it.
Should still be strong enough to hold a person or two, but lighter.
truck already feels weighed down as is, with things like tires and armor
adding a thick strong bed (that can probably hold unnecessarily high weight) is definitely heavy and noticeable
vs. if it was a diesel truck, weight like that would be carried like a feather

For my recent build I used mostly 3/4" birch, but I bought 1 sheet of ACX plywood. It was much cheaper, looked pretty good (one side looks nice and the back side not so much), a bit lighter, low void but was super bowed and got worse as it sat in the garage.

Mines built out of 1/2” hardwood ply from Home Depot, it’s held up fine for me.

I didn't remake mine, but originally used the regular "cheap" grade 3/4 and 1/2" plywood. It warps easily though depending on how you transport it. Cabinet grade wood would have been a lot easier to deal with, but heavier like you said.

The middle removable sections I made are plenty strong to hold two people. I added some aluminum angle on the ends for reinforcement too

dang. I think mine is 5/8” smooth plywood.
But at $150 for a sheet from Home Depot, holy shit.

it is heavy but at the same time I’ve never had it warp bend or bow in any scenario.

friend camps more than me right now. Was thinking of selling it to him and remaking my own one later.
I need to fund a regear right now more than a shell and bed.

can’t find a high rise shell to trade for which is what I want. Mine is cab height.
I figure might as well sell the cab height now, run topless for a while
And wait until I stumble upon a high rise to mount when I get it.
Life may take me back out of commiefornia again for some time which is where shells are priced better.
To give an example, I have a nice snugtop. Place popped up with a high rise.
I asked can we trade or I put cash on top my end.
Dude said his shell is $2800 and they’d give me $500 for mine on trade. Lol

Plus I made my bed with a hand saw and adjusted measurements about 1/8” down on each side to fit my thick bedrug.
Needless to say the cuts and carpet wrap isn’t the best job. Now I have a jigsaw which if I make another it will turn out better. Maybe even take to an upholstery shop to carpet.

Rigged up a bit of extra storage for camping. I don't plan on driving with it up, but once I'm parked it'll provide some good storage. I think I'll get a couple big suction cups so I can attach this to the outside of my truck also while I'm camping.20230902_102647.jpg 20230902_102533.jpg 20230902_102415.jpg

I made mine out of 1” cabinet plywood, thing is stout to say the least. But I’ve been really considering trying to make one out of aluminum square tubing. A little more module and light weight. I bought a spool gun for my welder a while back, need to practice with it.
