So it looks like bearings and flat stock is the way to avoid the hundred dollars slides. Are you guys using skateboard bearing or is there a cheaper option?

I made a platform for myself but I ended up not liking it, I made it too tall, and would now prefer short entire bed most people are doing instead of the half bed I did. Will redo eventually. What do you guys do with your prototypes?[IMG] Trash them, or try to reuse as much as possible.

Mine is standing up next to the shed, protected from weather.
Need to let it go. I am not going to use it. Made for walkin door of ARE cap, long bed AC. Hint!!!

I used skateboard bearings on mine in conjunction with square aluminum tubing. It's holding up great.

I remember them being more expensive when I skated but I guess for this you don’t need top end bearings.

Is there any value to these? I figured you’d have to give them away.

Lol if mine wasn't shoddy at best I might. I've decided to take it apart and just use what I can for the new design.

Here's mine. I went for utility over style. I watched this goofball's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caVC4GGDgA0&t=345s video and went from there. I used Velcro to hold the 1X's down to the bed. I didn't realize it's plastic! I do want to get a molle panel for the passenger side of the bed too. Think I'll be very happy after that.

Thanks to the inspiration from this thread, I made made a basic platform for my LB this week. Nothing fancy, but it's sturdy and easy enough to remove when we aren't headed camping. I like that it's easy to move the section nearest to the tailgate for storing tall items. All supplies cost ~$100 from home depot.

Just finished building my mega storage/bed platform. Skill saw, jig saw, glue and air stapler. Used birch plywood 1/2 inch. DSC00929.jpg DSC00930 (1).jpg

Ideally you need a bottom vent for that propane tank.

It is just storage for transit. My stove will set-up outside. It will also be strapped into a holder.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
This is truly a work of art. Thanks for sharing.

I built a shit version when I first got it and honestly it works great...only issue is it needs a tailgate extension and I’m not sure the best way to do it how it’s currently built. Think I’m in the boat of redoing it all with so many great ideas in here

Made myself a sleeping platform. Used 1 sheet of 19/32" OSB, a deck board, and a couple 2bys. Then covered with carpet to finish the look. Stout as hell and looks pretty good, imo. Took about 2 hours total start to finish. Comes out in 2 pieces in seconds.

Looks nice. What are those screw eyes for on the sides? Also, it looks like the 2x4 underneath moves around since it is in the middle in 1 picture and to the right (as you are looking at it) in the 2nd picture?

Not sure what you mean when you say it looks like it moves around. The passenger side piece has 3 2by4 legs. One in the front, middle and towards the tailgate(the one you can see in the pics). The drivers side piece rests on the deck board running the length front to back. The outside edges rest on the lip molded in to the bed. The eyes are for when I am hauling camping gear or otherwise. They'll allow bungee straps or ratchet straps to secure cargo. They are about an inch from the bedside so they won't interfere with sleeping. There is ample space for totes and gear underneath as well. Thought about drawers but decided there's no need for the extra weight of them. Gonna attach rope to the totes so I can shove them under all the way to the front under the platform, then pull the ropes to access them when needed.

Ok, you know it is just the angle of the picture, sorry. The first was taken dead center the second picture was taken from off to the left making me think the 2x4 underneath was moved. Ropes to the totes, good idea.
