Can't beat a Colt. Proven over and over and over again. Some will argue this but time and time again Colt will come through for you. I also like the Glock SF21 .45 ACP.

Kimber is 100% made in house in Yonkers New York, or so says there wbebsite, the frames and slides are mated early in the process for the best fit, and travel the complete process together. It's stamped right on the slide, Made in Yonkers, New York. The Springers I looked at had Made in Brazil lasered on the slide as well. BTW Kimber claims to have the tightest tolerances of ANY 1911. Just saying...

Kimber can claim that all they want. I've had several Kimbers and they are not near as tight as my Les Baers. Just saying...

I would assume they were talking about production guns, not the custom shop, hand fitted stuff, like Les Baers, Nighthawk, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and so forth.

Well, here she is, Kimber GRII. All stock except for a chainlink pattern Ed Brown mainspring housing, the plastic had to go. She'll have to do till I can afford to drop $2,400 on a Nighthawk.DSC02122.jpg

I use the GR as one of my carry guns. One thing to watch out for is the stain they use on the grips panels. The first time I carried it the stain bled onto my white t-shirt. I was pissed. I called and complained. The customer service lady said that's the way they come from their supplier. In so many words she meant - too bad, you're stuck with them. I took the grips off and gave them a couple coats of clear sealer.

Good heads up, although I don't carry it often, mostly in the winter, I havent had this problem. Either way a coat of clear shure would make those grips pop.

Just out of curiosity, does the scale treatment on the grip and frontstrap hold as well as a standard checkering, or is it just a gimmick?

I would say it's not as "grippy" as checkering, but it does add roughness to help keep the gun from shifting in your hand. I prefer 25lpi checkering on carry guns and 20lpi checkering on competition guns.

Primer, I think I've got some tru oil laying around,I might try that. Diamondback, as far as the grip is concerned I think it is excellent. The scales seem to grip in all the right directions and not snag on clothing or whatnot. Plus I just think its damn sexy.

Alright guys/gals I havent read all these post yet so sorry if I repeat what someone already put up. I love my guns like I do my yota so heres my thoughts. Hands down of course a kimber is a badass MOFO for sure. If someone has that kind of money even the less expensive ones are awesome. I was on the hunt for a new 1911 about six years ago when I came across an article in a popular gun mag that had a write up on the new release at the time of the springfield 1911-A1 MIL SPEC model. The navy seals had been requesting from their higher ups to be able to carry a 1911 again as a secondary weapon or so said the article. If you do a little research youll see this is why Kimber Desert Warrior models still come with the orignal design of a 1911 because the marines and seals would not allow the weapon unless it was the standard design to be carried. I didnt have that kind of cash to drop on Kimber especially since I knew I was going to carry or have mine on me at all times in the truck plus lets be honest if you would ever have to use it would you rather lose a 600 dollar gun to the evidence locker for ten years of a 1200 dollar kimber at the low end. So I bought the springfield MIL Spec and never looked back. Now Im not going to set here and tell you how great it is just to blow smoke up your hole if it isnt the truth. When I got mine we were living in another state while my wife went to college there so in other words I lived three mile up a hollar in VA with no one I knew any closer than three hours away. So my Four wheeler and new 1911 got a lot of play time. I have no doubt Ive shot a minimum of 2000 rounds through mine with out one jam or stove pipe. I bought a 100 round box of winchester white box FMJ once a week at wally world and cut trees down with it! I cleaned it after ever time out and havent replaced a spring one in it. I put houge rubber grips on it and havent done anything other than that. Here she is

Now if you are going to carry it concealed check out cheaperthandirt.com for a great buy on this kydex blade tech adjustable holster. Ive been carrying mine it it for awhile and you can see it hasnt left a spot on my finish.

    Now you see me
    [IMG]

Now you dont!! with a tshirt so during winter and a sweatshirt or jacket wouldnt ever even see a bludge.

    Now a little less concealed
    [IMG]

My other reason for not buying a kimber because I needed money for my second baby bushmaster AR15 anybody has a thread on these please let me know.

Flash light Laser Fore Grip and foursided rail up front all didnt add more than 2 pounds if that.

Ice cube Laser thats all for now good luck on the 1911

Thanks, I doubt I'll ever use the rail, but it's nice to have if I ever want to.

I'm a plain 'ole "pancake" style fan. This is just Galco's concealable line in "Havana" brown. Works for me.
