See if someone near you will trade tires? A 265 75 16 will look similar on those wheels. Someone may want to trade and give you money on top since your 285s are more expensive.

Not a bad idea. I'll take a look around. Thanks

I´m going to install a 2.5 lift kit in my tacoma TRD sport 23... I´m between the 285/70R17... the Fireston A/T2 (45 Pound) or Yokohama AT (46 pound) but I have to install Spacer (at least temporal solution) to avoid buy other wheels , or stay with 265/70R17 less weight I can keep the OEM Wheels , or there is a Pizza cutter, 255/75R17 but in this case although the tire is C load the weight is 45.5 pound, I know that I´m over thinking... but I don´t want to make my truck look very tall with small tire , or have rubbing issues... What do you think about it?

I have a very similar set up as yours. 285/75R16 BFG KO2 on DX4 wheels with +10 offset 8"width Bilstein 5100 with OME 2888 running RXT leaf pack .

I did a few of things to prevent rubbing.
    1. CMC (Cab Mount Chop)
    2. Viper cut - if that is too extreme then enough trimming to clear your tires - I go off road so I wanted plenty of wheel clearance.
Those two things were relatively inexpensive - shop charged me $450 to do both - I could have done the viper cut myself but don't trust my cutting skill.
    3. The big item was I replaced the stock UCA with a SPC UCA which allows for a lot more flexibility in terms of the alignment and also clears the tires. $744
    4. And of course an alignment.
I have no rubbing issues with this set up and I am thinking of maybe going a tad bigger to 34s but want to get a re-gear first so that is on the back burner for now.

Not sure if it was mentioned somewhere but it would be great if everyone who went up to 285s posted up more info about their setups. Something like...
    a. Suspension setups including UCA they are running
    b. What you did to clear the tires/eliminate rubbing (Did you do a CMC? Not needed?)
    c. Something you learned while moving up to 285s. Like if you could do it over again what would you change?

What's your offset on your wheels? Mine are +10 offset. No major rubbing, just slight. I'm just doing 0.75" offset. Not going to buy new wheels and tires!

    a. 1.5-2" lift from Bilstein 5100's, 2885 OME springs, and Icon AAL.
    b. Removed the mudflaps for the worst of the rubbing. Now, only ever rubbing on UCAs when turning at just the right angle, on going into and out of incline.
    c. I'd probably get wheels with more negative offset, like -10 at most. However, I love the wheels I have now (pictured), and don't think I'd go with another set. So, I'll probably go with 0.75" hub-centric spacers to completely clear UCAs, and then do a cab mount chop ($250) for good measure. Worth it for my wheels IMO, but what's your opinion?

Never heard of viber chop, but looks cool! I'm not rubbing in this area, so I will probably wait to chop the front-end until I get a high clearance front bumper.

would love to ask you about your experience with your truck. Been researching going up to 33s on my truck. I love SCS wheels and am saving up for the dark bronze it looks like you are running(F5?). They look amazing on your truck. What offset did you go with? And did you need to add a UCA or any other modifications or adjustments to get them to work?

Thanks so much for your help

I wish I would have went with a 0 offset wheel. I rub the cab mount like crazy with -25 and aftermarket control arms.

I changed my setup recently, took off my 255/85r16 geolandar mts and put on 285/75r16 At4w. The weight is the same as my stock rims on 255s.

I got tired of mud terrains and I didn't want to do another winter with them. I got away with it last year since it was so mild, couldn't stand the look of skinny tires. Keep in mind the g003s run half in narrower then other 255s

My pro is stock suspension bmc pinch weld flat running custom made mudflaps that are mounted to match the clearance of the bmc. 3 degrees of caster, kp offroad alignment cams. Heated and pushed the plastic in the front out of the way. There is no rubbing anywhere, not even close. I'm running scs f5s 16x8 - 25mm 20240915_122251.jpg 20240915_122243.jpg

I went with 285/75/17 and love them. I do have a CMC and 3” lift w/ 1.25 spider tracks spacers.

No trimming of the front fender? Did the kp off road alignment tabs help with getting the 3 degrees of caster or can that be done with the stock pro setup?

No trimming of the main fender just a bit off the corner above the body mount to match it. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get 3 degrees with stock cams, but I already had the kp offroad ones. My buddy has access to a hunter alignment machine that is regularly calibrated. We played around for a couple hours to get it how I wanted.

The front edges of the bumper are trimmed a bit and the whole liner is heated and pushed back a couple inches, I could probably take the bumper edges back another inch but I don't feel the need yet. I hate viper cuts and I like having fender liners so here I am.

Lots of people seem to think pulling 3.5 plus degrees of caster with an aftermarket uca is giving them clearance. It's just pulling the tire back towards the body mount from the uca. For correcting alignment when lifted 2 plus inches you want that but not explicitly for clearance.

My mudflaps are molded to match the body mount and there is no exposed metal like I see alot of guys have. Just the body mount. This is as close as I can get to rubbing. 20240916_145258.jpg 20240916_145358.jpg 20240916_145446.jpg 20240916_145345.jpg 20240916_145318.jpg 20240916_145153.jpg

What's the offset of those wheels (excluding spacers)?

Hey man I appreciate the detailed response and pics!! I have -20 wheels with 265/75/16 tires on my pro and I’m like a few mm away from rubbing in both the front and back so I pretty much gave up the idea of ever getting 285’s without an aggressive viper cut but now thanks to you I see it’s possible. Do you think getting the wescott lift would mitigate some of the need to cut up front with the additional 1.5 inch?

No problem, it's hard to find good info on here. I personally wouldn't touch a wectcott lift, most honest reviews say they ride terrible.

The front was the easiest part. I took the little bolt out thats in the outside edge of the bumper holding the liner in place. Then I pulled the liner back and used one the the holes thats already in the bumper to remount the factory plastic clip/nut further back. just used an olfa knife and trimmed the edge of the bumper back until I could get the clip to fit over the existing hole thats there. Really not invasive at all, then I just heated the liner carefully with a heat gun and pushed it all back.

I wouldn't worry too much you'll see what I'm talking about if you look under your bumper at the bolt that mounts it. I think alot of people do viper cuts that don't necessarily need to. What I did to my old colorado was very extreme compared to this. I like things to be clean and neat.

All I really did on the rear was cut this edge at an angle as well as the bottom of the plastic flare to match. Removed this plastic nutsert (the angled cut through the flare and metal goes right through the middle of the hole the clip was in) drilled a hole behind it to mount the L bracket for my mudflaps, and bolted it back together with a stainless bolt. Then heated everything to form and match my bmc. I didn't cut any of the wheel well liner, it and the mudflap both go over top of the metal I cut. Which was painted then coated in cosmoline.

The alignment gave me at least half an inch more clearance at the rear of the front tire. I could fit a bigger tire then a 285, but I have 0 interest in 35s on this truck. Screenshot_20240917_201221_Gallery.jpg
