These are a few pics of my trip to New Zealand. All in all I spent just a little over 5 g's on the entire trip, that's including rountrip air fair, food, random crap and lodging. (stayed in a few hostels and lived) :D

This one was taken on a lake near Flock Hill Station.

This picture below does no justice for the actual appearance of the hight and steepness of the mountain side there. We weren't allowed to take picks while on the ridge cuz one idiot a few years back tried doing so and almost fell over but just ended up losing his camera.

Huge storm that hit us at the lake this weekend. The waves were about 3' high when it hit.

Bump for a good thread. My partner from my Wyoming trip (who had the camera) finally got back and got with the pictars.

Chris and I climbed the east ridge of the Wolf's Head in mid-July. This peak is in the Cirque of the Towers in the backcountry of Wyoming. We are talking remote. How remote? Well, fly into Jackson Hole (pop: 8800) and rent a car. Drive 90 minutes to the south, and leave the paved highway at Boulder WY (pop: 72, as in seventy-two). Drive another hour and park at the Big Sandy Trailhead.

At this point you are at the trailhead. The Cirque is 8 more miles of backcountry hiking with ~50lbs. on your back.

Anyway, the climb was fun and Wyoming backcountry is absolutely stunning. A few pics with captions:

Get loose folks...it's a long hike in. This picture was taken at Big Sandy Lake, about 5 miles in on the trail. A great spot to rest and eat something.

The Cirque of the Towers, as seen from the approach trail just past Arrowhead Lake - some of the best alpine rock climbing in the US.

A slightly closer view. The peak on the right is Pingora, and the ridge to it's left is the Wolf's Head. It is climbed by ascending the center of the face below the ridge until you gain the ridgeline, then traversing left. The summit is somewhere around 12,000 feet above sea level, but the actual technical climbing is only about 1200 feet of vertical rock.

The weather in the Cirque was absolutely insane. On our first attempt, rain and hail opened up while we were in the approach gulley. Gulleys are NOT where you want to be during precipitation...that's where mountains send loose rocks and other debris that gets washed off. Shortly after rappelling out of the gulley, we hiked back to base camp in sunshine...and then an hour later it was storming again. Go figure.

Chris on that same retreat. You can see the storm clouds all around.

Once again, I can't emphasize how gorgeous this place is.

Last but not least...take bug spray. Lots of it. The mosquitoes out there are legendary:

We were clothed the whole time. Those bugs did this to me through my shirt.
