I've always appreciated you sad sacks whose wives force you to sell me this precious stereo equipment at "fuck my husband" prices! Your sacrifice does not go unappreciated, gentlemen.

    • Turntable - Audio Technica LP-125-USB
    • Pre-amp - NAD 1700
    • Power amp - NAD 216
    • Speakers - 2x Cerwin Vega LS-12

Surely my neighbors would rather we never met to transact, but you can't put this fart back in the bottle! :headbang:

Alright so now for the naughty pics like the title promised... just remember our deal yeah?

Bonus points for letting me know what you're listening to even though I didn't ask.

What's that you ask? Oh, "what am I listening to?"? Well if you simply must know...

Melted Bodies - Ad People was playing on the turntable just then. Oh "...and this right now?"? Haha of course, this is Ghengis Tron - Colony Collapse, thanks for asking!

Here's that dependable good time gal you ring up each time you're back home visiting the parents.

If you haven't noticed, I have a bit of a thing for CV LS-12s, they're prominent in both of my setups both at home and at my parent's house.

Turntable is an old Pioneer PL-115D that a family friend gifted to me as a first turntable. It was in terrible shape so I took it to a local high end stereo shop and asked them to disassemble and give me the pieces parts. I took the parts and painted and added decals, then gave back to the shop for reassembly.

The NAD has since made its way to my house to compliment the NAD power amp I picked up a couple years back.

The Adcom has stayed at my parent's place back in Ohio, and I picked up an Adcom preamp to put in front of it for that brighter sound you can achieve with and Adcom-on-Adcom setup.

    o4ILrP2.jpg hyvcaqP.jpg lbBJD9W.jpg mATD63u.jpg vaHfhhn.jpg

Obviously at the time I was listening to a test pressing of LITE's Installation. Bought from Topshelf directly, turns out the pressing was made at Cleveland's own Gotta Groove Records. Small world...

@BudFriendguy made me post my stuff here.

We bought this house 8 years ago. It has a theater room but having no money because apparently living room furniture is more important than the theater room, I repurposed my existing gear and have since bought some new stuff.

Copy/paste from another thread with some updates.

    My set up:

    Onkyo TX-NR616
    Logitech Harmony Hub
    XBox One
    TiVo Bolt
    Amazon Firestick

    Streaming services:
    Netflix
    Amazon Prime
    Disney+
    PLEX

The Harmony Hub has been tweaked to control a Lutron Maestro light switch to turn the lights on and off when I push Pause, Play or Stop.

Left and right speakers are Cerwin Vega E-312. Scored off of Craigslist for $50. Absolutely perfect condition.

    20210519_214736.jpg

Center is a CV SL-45C. Purchased new.

    20210519_214749.jpg

I have 3 subs set up - all different. a JBL PSW-1000, a Sony SA-WM500 and a Monoprice 605999. The JBL and Sony were Craigslist finds, the Monoprice was new.

I'm saving room for a CV sub on the other side of the center speaker but they are reluctant to show up on Craigslist or FB Marketplace.

There were 2 surround speakers in the ceiling when we bought the house. I've since added 2 more for 7.3 surround.

I have a Pyle Pro PTA1000 amp and 2 Pyle Pro speakers and each one has 2 12" speakers and they are super loud. The only problem is one side doesn't work, so I only get sound on one side but it is still like a dance party in my room.

Is the problem the speaker or the amp?

I think it's the amp. I switched the speaker wires and both speakers work.

Just replaced the LS-12 today with a set of RE-38 I copped compliments of @RallySOP a while back. These big bitches produce a huge, deep bass that can really *thump* :headbang:

    IMG_3706-1.jpg

    Here's the setup...

    NAD 216 (power amp)
    • Power output: 125 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo), 400 watts into 8Ω (mono), 200 watts per channel into 4Ω (stereo)
    • Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz
    • Total harmonic distortion: 0.03%
    • Damping factor: 200
    • Input sensitivity: 1.1V
    • Signal to noise ratio: 117dB
    • Speaker load impedance: 4Ω (minimum)
    • Dimensions (w/h/d): 435/146/370 mm
    • Weight: 34.2 lbs.
    CV LS-12 (outgoing)
    • Power Handling: 300 Watts Peak
    • Frequency Response: 29Hz-26kHz
    • Peak Sensitivity: 91 dB
    • Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohms
    • Weight: 50.5 lbs.
    • Dimensions (w/h/d): 14/33/14.8 in.
    • Description: 12 in. 3-way
    CV RE-38 (incoming)
    • Power Handling: 5 to 400 Watts RMS
    • Frequency Response: 27Hz-20kHz
    • Sensitivity: 102 dB
    • Impedance: 4 Ohms
    • Weight: 90 lbs.
    • Dimensions (w/h/d): 35.75/18/17.75 in.
    • Description: 15 in. 3-way

They would've been hooked up sooner if not for the foam damage done to the woofers by a flapping tarp during the long drive back home.

In the past Simply Speakers was my source for LS-12 tweeter replacements. So they were the go-to for a re-foam kit, especially since they produce the thing. Results from the kit were good, the foam fit well and even came with some glue.

The first speaker was an awful mess to de-foam, and the second went smooth as silk. Seems like the difference was skipping wetting with alcohol before cutting/scraping the foam, the dry foam cut loose with much less effort. Overall results are good if not a little sloppy on my part, which is fine.

You know I like the hell out of that, @BudFriendguy!

My "never going to happen but a guy can still hope" speakers for the theater room are a pair of XLS-215s.

I’m glad they’re thumping for ya. I wish I put a little more thought into it and brought some card board to protect the foam. Well it was almost 30 years old so replacement was probably a good idea anyway.

I wish I had a picture to share, but they're stowed away waiting to be refurbished and put in a proper room. When I was 16, I managed to get a set of VMPS Tower II's.

VMPS was well known for excellent bass and high output. These were rated at +/- 3DB from 22HZ - 50KHZ with a maximum output of 126 DB @ 5%THD.

They had 2 different front loaded, phase plugged 12" woofers and a slot loaded 12 passive radiator, a 4.5" phase-plugged midrange driver, dome tweeter and (2) piezo supertweeters. They were AWESOME for blasting rock and roll, and anything else I listened to at the time.

    Here's a picture from a google search:

    Here's our setup.

Two Klipsch Heresy floor speakers, inside the cabinet is a Klipsch 12" down firing sub and a Sony STR-DN850 to power it all.

Heresy's are the greatest! Glad to see others appreciate these vintage monsters. Get yourself some factory risers to get them off the floor a few inches, looks great and improves the sound IMHO.

Ya my dad is a big home audio guy and his neighbor had these at a garage sale (i think?) and he took them off his hands and gave them to me. I love the vintage look and man they sound great. I'll look into floor risers.

I have a several different sound setups throughout the house right now paired to a few different HTPC setups, but nothing crazy loud I’d say. Just wanted to share my love for NAD. Top in the photo is my humble, but damn good NAD 7130 that I bought around 1984 along with my first CD player. My dad told me at the time I was wasting my money and that CDs would never catch on. Eventually I guess he was sort of right, but CDs did have their day. Back then I had the NAD 7130 paired with two Mission speakers. At that time, I’d be listening to too much Rush, Floyd and a bunch of college radio stuff. The Mission speakers are long gone, but the 7130 lives on. Also below is the NAD 748 that I got a few years ago for my surround system. 37 years of receivers top to bottom.

Why 3 subs? Don't they overpower the rest of the higher frequencies?

It's a long, boring discussion but basically more subs cancel out the null waves that a room creates so that evens the bass response out and gets rid of dead zones in the room.

As for the bass overpowering everything else, I unplugged 2 of the subs while I adjusted the volume with my decibel meter on one then repeated the process with the other 2. I don't remember the exact numbers anymore but if the rest of the speakers are at 85 decibels, you adjust an individual sub to 75 (for example) so when all 3 are on, they collectively are at 85.
