Shut off and won't restart

My 05 V6 4.0 Tacoma shut off while pulling into my parking lot yesterday, and won't restart. The engine will turn over but won't actually crank. Also the Check Engine light, low oil pressure light, and battery light came on. Any ideas what the problem might be?

 

Check for spark while cranking .
Check for fuel pressure

 

Replaced fuel pump already. And it's getting power, but isn't sending fuel through the lines. Any ideas about that?

 

What's the check engine code? That would help.

Don't know what you mean by turns over but won't crank?

Battery light means charging isn't happening, did you check your belt?

 

So it will crank. Turning over=cranking.

Check the codes definitely. Go from there

 

I'll check the codes later tonight after I buy a scan tool. Thinking about the pump though, how does fuel get into the bucket that the URD pump sits in? There is pressure in my high pressure line, just no fuel. So now I'm thinking maybe I should drill a hole in the bucket so fuel can flow in?

 

When the truck stalls , the engine light , the oil pressure light and battery light will illuminate . This is normal when the truck stalls .
Lets go back to the fuel pressure ? you have pressure in the fuel rail to supply fuel to the injectors but there is no fuel ? Whats in the line ? air ?
If you have no fuel at the rail , you have a fuel pump issue or plugged filter / plugged fuel line .
When you turn the key to run , can you hear the fuel pump prime for 3 seconds ?
If you can hear the fuel pump prime for 3 seconds when you turn the key to run you should have fuel at the rail . Should be about 45 psi if you have a fuel guage .

 

Right, just air in the fuel lines.

 

Out of gas?
In the tank: Fuel line separation or a hole that is exposed when the fuel level is below it. = Add 5 gal and see what happens.

When I swapped pumps, I don't remember anything that would let fuel come into the bucket where the pump is. I added about 7 gallons last night just to make sure, thinki my gauge was broken and I ran out of gas, but no luck there. With so much pressure in the line, it makes me think that the pump is now working fine, but just doesn't have access to the fuel outside the bucket. Is there something I'm missing, or would I be ok to punch a hole in the bucket to allow fuel into it?

You switched fuel pumps with something from URD .
Help us out a little . More info the better chance we have of diagnosing this .

Turning over usually refers to starting.

 

Wondering if you have an air lock . Would be a matter of simply holding the shrader valve down until you see fuel at the rail . How long did the truck run after you installed the pump ?

The URD pump came with step by step instructions to replace the existing pump with their new one. The bucket I'm referring to is the bottom of the original pump in the 2nd picture. I remove the pump from the bucket, and mounted the new one.

I dropped the tank, removed the old pump and strapped the new one on, and reinserted the whole assembly into the tank, and reconnected the fuel lines.

I cranked the engine, but it wouldn't fire. I did however get it to start with starting fluid.

 

If you are getting a check engine light...go get it scanned.
