Re: "CG hardest to get into": Dunno about present times, but in the 70's, as far as I know, it was the hardest Academy to get into back then as well. I knew several classmates in High School and College who applied and were turned down by the Coast Guard, but were accepted by one of the others. In all cases, it wasn't their grades that was the issue.

It was seriously an involved application. I had to write 5 essays, three of my teachers had to provide reference, a CG officer came to my home and spent three hours interviewing me, both parents and two grandparents, and I managed to pull a letter of recommendation from a retired Navy Rear Admiral.

    Still didn't get in.

Some people are just dicks and like to make sure people know. Although in all fairness none of us have fought for American freedoms or rights in the past 80 years.

Sounds like trying to be a firefighter here in California. Plus lie detector test, and psych eval. I fail the psych eval. Go figure

Yeah, my regret is not going straight to the fire department right out of high school. My parents forced me to go to college. Go figure now I’m Pretty much retired living off my inheritance and working for my dad. I probably be a battalion chief in the fire department by now

The Coast Guard has a program to take Army warrant officers as direct transfer commissioned officers. I tried to do it and was told no, you’re too old. I was only 34 at the time.

Welp I usually would say let’s keep it to trucks and oil dogma. However, OP’s avatar does have a truck and most specifically a Toyota, so I don’t see any issues here.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
    Keep the avatar.

Flip a bird to the as$hat living in his helicopter moms basement and riding his e-scooter to Starbucks and carry on. They aren't worth your energy and will never understand what this means to you and the rest of us who served, voluntary or not.
