I'm wanting to pop rivet a bracket to this area behind and above the back seats of my 2019 double cab Tacoma. I saw the lettering about an airbag but have no idea where the actual airbag resides or what may be behind these panels on either side.

    Ideas?

The air bag should be a little higher in the headliner area. The side curtain bags are usually rolled up but I would look up how to remove that plastic trim first so you can see exactly what is behind that area before mounting anything.

Thanks Blur - I played with the trim but it didn't come loose and I did not want to break clips or whatever holds it in place.

I don't have any 2019 data, but I wouldn't put anything in that location until you are SURE it will not effect air bag deployment in a crash.

Just because it will mount doesn't mean it won't get in the way of the airbag deploying and could possibly become a hazzard. An air bag operates on an explosive force. That bracket could become a missile in about a pico-second in a crash.

I don't think it is a good idea. But that is just my opinion.

Jimmyh - you are correct in two things - old guys do rule - and flying objects in a crash are a concern. I will rethink the bracket idea - the purpose was to support the corner of an "attic" net that won't be carrying much weight. I appreciate your concern for safety. John

The Blue Ridge net is really nice especially with it being made specifically for the vehicle. I had looked at that but went with a more generic net. The one I got will be sufficient for what we think we'll be using it for. Blue Ridge is a heavier duty no doubt. The one shown below ($13.00) fits snugly when it's stretched but I think it would benefit from some support at the back corners.

Ah okay. For that, the panel should be fine, but removing it to drill & attach hardware is much easier and safer than just drilling with it in place.

Perhaps an easy solution. The cargo net has cord loops at the corners and the corners, when stretched, fit closely to the side panel I photographed. So, now, I think I can pop rivet this zip tie bracket to the plastic panel, use a zip tie to attach it to the loop on the net. Easy to take the net out cutting the zip tie, bracket stays ready for next time.
