Has anyone tried putting different gen side mirrors on their 1st gen taco? Or side mirrors from another kind of truck? Im not crazy about my 2000 tacos mirrors and was just thinking it could be fun finding something different.

If anyone has any pics i would love to see.

Lots of people put the 01-04 mirrors on the 95.5-00 trucks. The former are larger.

I personally like the smaller profile ones of our trucks.

The 4 runner mirror looks to be a bolt on to my 95.5 with the chrome housings.
Both are power, and I think I will get to that this week end .

I'm going to be doing the same. I have a passenger side one and am just waiting for my driver side to come in on Monday. I already know how to wire them. I plan on placing the control on the clock area. My 96 never came with a clock so I can use that space.

I did not do the swap as of today.
Have a fuel pump in a tacoma 4x4 to change out today, (my buddies truck)
And back to figuring out why mine wasn't starting.

Last year, I swapped the stock mirrors (manual) to 2002 4WD mirrors (also manual). I like the new ones much better for 2 reasons:
    - larger mirror
    - they are the 'fold-away' type (adjusts by pressing on the glass, rather than the moving the housing)

No modifications were needed. However, the new mirrors mount with nuts, rather than bolts.

@Mikerocosms can you post some info on wiring these? I've been thinking about getting power mirros for my truck and figured it'd be pretty easy to wire them in.

I've seen some people put tow mirrors. They look nice folded down.

I just got mine yesterday. I had some of the smaller manual mirrors, non-folding for the 2000 sr5. I took a chance on these, even though they say 00, and they're exactly what I wanted. Popped right in place of the old mirrors. Only issue was the old mirrors had those in-cab mechanical manual adjusters, which i removed, so there's a little hole in each of the interior trim pieces. Small price to pay for a much more functional mirror.

    Sure.

First get yourself a switch off of a 4runner or Tacoma with power windows. I suggest ebay or junkyard since they are fairly cheap there. Try and get one with a pigtail attached.

This is the pigtail connected to the the actual switch. You will have to run wires from these to your mirrors.
    wlad13_82fcd139e8da236ed5fc2aa8a4958e4a665b291b.jpg

Grey is 12v power (They recommend radio tap)
    White w/black stripe is ground.

Green w/red stripe is right mirror
Green w/black stripe is right mirror

Solid Green needs to be split to both mirrors

Pink w/green strip is left mirror
    Pink is left mirror

Thats all there is too it.

Here is a wiring diagram to help you understand:

    2yyniw2_2311c8cc2c1536e3c56bf90f9c16b632b8f64b58.jpg

Keep in mind you may have to test the actual connections at the mirror ends if the wires don't color match (depending on year of your mirrors). Just swap two wires at a time until the mirror goes in the direction you press on the button. Good luck and have fun!

I used 97 4runner mirrors. They bolt up the same as tacoma mirrors.

I just installed a set of these on my 2003 2wd extended cab Tacoma after purchasing them on E-bay. The quality, price, and fit are very good. My original sized mirrors with the manual adjustment lever were too small. Even though the mounting enclosure is about the same size, the new mirrors give you a lot more area. Plus they fold in when needed! Now I have to plug the hole for the adjustment lever.

Old stock mirror on top. New 4x4 mirror on the bottom
