Picked up my truck this week and didn't get the side steps I ordered so I need some suggestions. I thought about sliders but I know nothing about them. I do need whatever to provide a step for my wife and little girl. Please help with suggestions thanks.

If you plan on doing any off-roading then get a set of sliders. You can get them made straight as opposed to angled 15 or 20 degrees up and they will be more useful as a step.

Can someone please explain what sliders are?
    I get steps.
    But what's the advantage?

Sorry I don't mean to jack the thread just curious.

If you're going to wheel, get sliders without question. However, sliders do make getting in and out a little more difficult IMO. You get used to it, but it's there.
Edit* where in TN are you? Head over to the TN thread and say hello.

    Sliders are more practical, imo.
Have had both and if I had known what I know now about sliders/steps, I never would have gotten the steps first.
Best of luck with your journey.

so that when you get close to rocks they cant dig into the side of your truck, and, they allow your truck to push off (slide). i prefer weld-on vs bolt on. this guy put a step in the kick-out. with a good weld they also serve as lift points for a farm jack. sliders like this are different experience as a "step" vs real steps. sliders are typically held up high so the step from the ground is a high one, depending on any lift you might have. you can also "deck" the slider area near the doors so that its a flat step vs stepping onto a tube.

Looks more like a kick-out then a step.

You can get sliders that will be just like steps.
For instance, getting filler plates and a 0* angle.
Can be done. @Mobtown Offroad may be able to help ya.

yes, the kickout was filled in, for a "step" maybe, its kinda far back, maybe he wanted to be able to step up to reach into the back of the bed?

Stubbs can modify to what you need, highly recommended !

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
IMO sliders don't make great steps unless they are near flat they just sit up too high for a lifted vehicle. If you plan on taking your truck off road I would go with a set of sliders at 5 degrees with a plates on top of the tubes to provide a stepping platform. You can even request most fabricators to mount them as low as possible on the frame to help aid as a step.

Sliders look much better then steps I think but unless they are made for it they don't provide a great step.

That said we can mount your sliders whatever angle you choose cover them with 1/8th steel plate to provide your truck with protection as well as be a decent step.

My two cents - my previous '08 Taco (bought used) had side steps and I gotta' say they looked good, but were basically useless - more of an obstacle than a help. Even my wife hated them. They were mounted too closely to the body to serve their purpose. Never had sliders, so I have on idea there.
