    What is it?

The SideRide allows you to mount your bicycle to the side of your Tacoma, even if you have a softopper. This means you get to carry a bike and have an open bed with easy access!

    Why was it developed?

I developed the SideRide after not being satisfied with the options for carrying a bike on my Tacoma. I started off by using a tailgate pad. The issue was having bikes over the tailgate pretty much took up all the bed space, not to mention that having a swing-out rear bumper makes tailgate pads impossible to use.

So I moved onto using a hitch rack. This made the truck's departure angle atrocious while at the same time adding several feet to an already long rear end. I also didn't like the fact that a hitch rack blocked my tailgate for easy bed access.

After ruling out a tailgate pad and hitch rack, I experimented by transferring my roof mounted bike trays from my car to my truck's roof rack. That was a great spot for bikes except that the overall height of my truck was very tall, and that lifting your bike up over your head after a long ride wasn't always fun.

So after all the experience using existing methods I decided to develop a new place to put bikes. I decided the sides of the bed were perfect, as it wasn't too tall to lift a bike up to, and it wasn't going to take up any bed space. After some measuring I knew I wanted to keep these as close to the side as possible, so they didn't protrude too far when a bike is not mounted. I had to balance mounting them too close to the bedside that a pedal would hit my Softopper or other accessories. After a lot of time measuring, developing, and testing, the SideRide was born!

    What will it fit?

This version of the SideRide will fit 2005+ Tacomas*

    * 2016 and onward 3rd gen Tacomas will need to add the Bed Header Rail for the SideRide Front mount to attach securely

    What is included?

    Each SideRide comes with:
    • Driver's Side OR Passenger Side Front mount
    • Rear Mount
    • Bed Rail Clamp for the rear mount
    • 18" velcro strap for the rear tire
    • T Nuts for bed rail

    What does it cost?

    • $140 for a set + shipping

How this Group Buy will work:
    • If you are interested, please comment below what version you want.
    • When the list hits the closing date in a week or so, I will send out PM's to everyone on the list for specific order and payment information.
    • Once everyone pays, I will start a production run. At this point, All sales are final.
    • From the final payment date, turnaround should take approximately 4-6 - TBD weeks from the closing date, give or take. I'm hoping to get this down, but with Covid-19 everything that is non-essential gets less priority.
    • Once these are shipped, I will contact you individually to give you a tracking number.
    • Any and all updates will be posted here on TacomaWorld.
    Final Notes:
    • 3rd gen Tacoma's will need the Bed Header Rail to make these work properly.
    • All of the photos are of the prototypes, but basically what you will receive. I added additional small features after they were taken.
    • I am NOT including the fork mounts. I can not guarantee that ones not linked to above will work, however I did try to make these as universal as possible.
    • I can NOT guarantee fitment in relation to your Hard Camper Shell, Bestop, or even tonneau cover. These were designed for an open bed, or a softopper.
    • Please let me know if you have any questions moving forward!

    GB#2 List:

Please note: Pricing might not be the same as the Group Buy #1 as I've had to make some changes to make them work with 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas.

Hmmmmmmmmmm I really wonder if this would work with the Bed Rack installed. It looks like it bolts into the rail system, what's the clamp for? I'm going to buy one and if it don't work at least I tried. I'll take a passenger side version please. Will any locking fork mount fit it?

Is there any reason these wouldn’t fit a 3rd Gen that has the front track added to the bed?

    Added to the list!

And regarding the clamp, it's to help alleviate the vertical movement when a bike is mounted. Basically I don't want bikes bouncing, so the extra support up top helps that a lot.

The hole spacing for the fork mount is designed around:
    • Hole spacing for 1/4" hardware for fork mount
    • Hole and slot accommodates for up to 3.5" to 5.5" width fork mounts
Additionally, there is a decent amount of flat spacing for additional holes to be drilled.

hmm I'm fairly certain the 3rd gen bed rails to top of the bed side have different spacing. the same could go for the front bed rail that was added.

Once coronavirus has passed and the quarantine ends I'll get my hand on a 3rd gen to verify myself!

Thanks! I'll finish developing my 3rd gen versions once I can get my hands on a 3rd gen!

I tried to make these as "universal" as possible, but without buying every fork mount for the sake of measuring I cannot say they are universal. They will work with the fork mounts I designed, or you can check the spacing on ones you have and see if it'll fit :)

What are some pros and cons of either side? I feel like driver side ill be able to see the bike constantly while driving...which could be a good or bad thing i guess

So they don’t really block visibility, because I have them tucked pretty close to the bedside.

the best way to see which works better is to try! :)

I remember homertaco was the only one that had something like this before, looks like a good market. How is the back tire being secured, is that a straps or velcro?
