So Ive had this truck only a couple weeks now, its gonna be a fun project that i plan on restoring and moding to keep up with my buddy Drew who has an 82 and is a member here.

It has the 20r and 4spd transmision and the day i drove it home its overheating. When it gets hot it starts sputtering and dies so i have to let it cool and it fires right back up. It sounds to me like a headgasket and water is getting in the cylinder. If anyone has any advice feel free to chime in.

I have ordered several parts to start my engine rebuild and they have all shipped and should be here any day now so i thought Id go ahead and start my build thread and update as I make progress..

Weber 38 from WeberCarbsDirect elec choke.. $249
Block off Plates from LCE.. $150
    Radiator From Advance Auto $120
Pace Setter Header from Summit Racing $160
Fuel Regulator and Gauge from Summit $60

So right now Im between $700 and $750 into my engine and I plan on ordering the ENGBLDR rebuild kit with .30 over pistons and a 261C Crawler cam. I feel like this will be a good investment baceuse my motor will be ready to carry me down the trails for many years once completed.

The body on this truck is pretty straight, it does have a spot on the bed where it is rusted through and the floor plans are in pretty bad shape. I plan to start the body work and begin painting while its down for a few weeks while im rebuilding the motor. Im very anxious to get the motor and body work done so i can make a few purchases from Old Man Emu and get me some tires. Like I said this is just getting me started, I dont have anything cool to post yet but Ill post my progress and get to the fun stuff pretty soon..

So there's my truck i know she's not pretty just yet but i see some potential.. Thanks for having me here at Tacoma World! Im fairly new to all this so if any of yall professionals wanna lend a helping hand and give some advice or constructive critism my ears are open..

My bad Drew, idk why i was thinking it was an '82..

I dont think i should have touched my truck at all this weekend because my carb. and fuel reg. and gauge came in so i got bored and decided to start some body work.. I made some progress because i removed all the old decals which had to come off before the new paint anyway but it sure looked better before i started.

The old decals came off fairly easy using a heat gun and razor blade, but in alot of places it took off the paint with the decal and its down to bare metal, so its gonna be alot of sanding to get it right. Im still waiting on my header and block off plates to arrive so i can pull my motor and start my rebuild. Here are some pics of my progress...

90% of TacomaWorld doesn't read the other builds section and 8% that do don't feel the need to post. Lol

When it gets cool, people will suddenly show up. Plus we're both pretty new and haven't made any friends on TW because everyone in Alabama never wants to meet.

Already talking smack! You've got a long way to go man. My truck is gonna spank yours for awhile :D and If Taylor gets tires then he's gonna beat us for awhile.

But I'm about to order a spool for the rear :spy: I don't care if my tires chirp while I mall crawl in Walmart parking lot!
