Start out with an image size off 500x100pixels first. That will help. Work with it at that size.

PS has a "save for web" option that lets you adjust quality and see what the file size is without saving it. I'll see if paint.net has something similar. If not, you could probably save it as a jpg, and adjust the quality before saving. Use trial and error to get it under 15k. That's what I used to do. In the mean time I'll see if I can find an easier way in paint.net.

    Edit:

Ok, when you do "save as" and select .jpg format it gives a scroll bar to adjust quality, and displays the size above the image. You should be able to use that to get it down to 15K.

When i saved it from paintNET it gave me the quality option and i just moved the bar to get it under 15kb. i need to mess around with it more, because i need it wider. Im new to the whole picture altering so i just need more play time.

    EDIT: I figured it out.

OMG, that is pretty high on the insult index, if you asked me. Kind of like 7.1 on the Richter scale.

What are you using to make it? Dimensions need to be 500x100 or less, and 15kb or under. When you save it as a jpg you can usually adjust the quality to adjust the size before finalizing the save.

Thanks. The only thing i couldn't figure out how to do was add more than one photo or layer them like you had on yours. Maybe it is just paint.net, maybe i just couldn't find it. Anyways, i tried adding more layers but that didnt really do anything for me in the end. But im getting the hang of it.

Yeah, I like layers! :D Keeps me from screwing up the original image if I want to change something, or change the transparency to fade something in or out.

I'll look at paint.net some more. I always forget I have it so I haven't done anything with it! I downloaded it, and never used it.

Oh, on the right side of the screen there's a small window called "Layers". Click the button that looks like stacked paper with a "+" on it. That adds layers, or select a section, copy, then paste into a new layer (under the Edit menu).

If the "Layers" window isn't showing, you can push F7 or select it under the Window menu.

Yeah i know how to add new layers, but i dont know how to add a photo to the new layer. I go to insert picture or whatever, but it either doesn't work or just completely covers the original image.

ah. Ok. Do you select the new layer for inserting the new image? In PS it makes a new layer if you drag a new image onto an existing one. I usually have to resize the new one anyway, and sometimes I adjust the opacity or layer order to get the effect I want.

I can adjust the opacity of the different layers, but i dont know how to throw up a second image. I was adding gradiants and what not over some of my banners.
