    Hi All,
I have a 2024 4 wheel drive sport. I usually have to pull into a very very busy street with average speeds of cars over 50 mph. Needles to say it sometimes requires me to punch it. A handful of times there has been a significant delay in response (possibly a second or more) which makes things a little scary. Anyone else with this issue?

    maybe try sport mode?
1 second delay isnt "significant hesitation"....
If there truly was an issue, check engine light would come on....

Probably not. Turbo lag isn't really much of a thing anymore except on built motors with huge turbos.

"a second of more" can be significant if you are pulling out in front of a truck or car doing 50 to 60 mph and your car is just sitting in the lane doing nothing while my foot is on the gas..

In regards to turbo lag, does that come into play from low stand still? I am at a dead stop or rolling slightly, punch it..and nothing...

"Turbo lag" is the time it takes the turbocharger to spool up and build enough boost to allow the engine to make significant power. It can be a cause for reduced throttle response, which is the time it takes for the engine to respond to a change in throttle input. Like I said before, turbo lag isn't really much of a thing anymore; they've mostly designed it away. What you're describing could be any number of things. There's a whole lot that happens between you putting your foot down and the truck starting to move. It sounds like poor throttle response, but it's hard to tell.

Maybe shoot a video of you attempting the same kind of acceleration someplace safe and post it for us to see? Be sure to include the gauge cluster so we can see the meters. I'd be interested in the tachometer and the boost guage in particular.

if you put a fourth GEN Tacoma in sport mode, you will see there is no turbo lag.

wait for a bigger spot to merge into traffic... are we talking about delay from complete stop or say 5-15mph roll on throttle ?

If you get any tire spin at all the nanny’s are going to kick in and that might be your problem. Shut of your traction control and try it

It's the electronic throttle. Get a pedal commander or the other brand and you can adjust that so that the throttle immediately responds.

Step on the gas harder…the third gen does this too. You don’t get a whole lot out of it until the pedal is the better part of 1/2 way to the floor. When I test drove a 4G I noticed the gas pedal was pretty similar. Just the way throttle by wire is.

People complain about power out of the 3G V6 but I have never had problems getting up to speed quickly when I needed to and my truck is fully capable of breaking the rear tires loose. You just need to step on it.

I think this is a "save the driveline" kind of thing. I notice in at least 1st gear (maybe even 2nd) it will not deliver full power. After it shifts it will let you give it all it has. I assume this is to cut down on wheel spin and also reduce driveline stresses. Not the first vehicle I've owned that was programmed like this. I have noticed this on mine.

My Nissan Titan does this. Only get 60% of the beans up to a certain speed. Also it will reduce power immediately after taking a tight turn for a second or so. Seems to be programming to protect the drivetrain and/or make the truck less likely to burn out at lower speeds and turns.

My previous Titan didn't have this, seems to be a new thing in some trucks

I had an '07 Frontier with the 4.0 and it wouldn't let the throttle body open up 100% till 40mph. Was pretty annoying to be honest.

It’s not turbo lag. It’s Friday lag.

Meaning, this post was meant for last Friday, somehow delayed due until yesterday.

Had a pedal commander on my last vehicle (2020 Ram Eco-diesel). It completely fixed my turbo-lag issue. Thinking of adding our new 2025 Limited Tacoma as well. Seems to be okay if in Sport or Sport+ mode though for now.
